Does the Sona Anti Snore Pillow Really Work?

Does the Sona Anti Snore Pillow work? The SONA Anti Snore Pillow says it’s an FDA cleared anti snoring device that can even be used for mild cases of sleep apnea. The theory is that by rolling you onto your side, instead of sleeping on your back, you’ll prevent your airway from constricting, resulting in no more snoring. It’s got a contour to it that allows your arm to extend over your head while you sleep, securing you in the position so you don’t move around. But does the method actually work?

Overview
When it comes to stopping snoring you only have a few different options. You can get surgery, which most people try to avoid with the use of other methods. You can use a mouthpiece or a chin strap that tries to move your jaw forward so you keep your airways open. Or you can use a special pillow that will use any number of ways to try to clear your airway and prevent your from snoring. So it’s up to you which strategy you want to go with, but you may find that a mix of different techniques and gadgets holds the key.

The Claim
SONA Anti Snore Pillow claims that it can help you with your snoring, but doesn’t outwardly state that it will eliminate it altogether. They say it’s the only pillow that has been approved as a medical device by the FDA and that it has a patent. The patent application says that the reason it works is the pillow restricts movement of the jaw so that snoring and sleep apnea are effectively avoided. The jaw is essentially pressed against the shoulder when the arm is raised above the head.

They say that the pillow provides firm support, so those that are used to a very squishy pillow might need a few nights to adjust to the way it feels. They claim that it is filled with a special fiver called SofLoft, so it not only supports but is supposed to contour to your head, shoulder, and arms so that you get placed into the proper alignment. It’s got a 100% cotton cover, so when it needs to be washed you simply remove the cover and wash that.

The Hype
The entire snoring industry gets a lot of hype because relatively speaking there are only a handful of companies trying to win the battle for the top stop snoring title. Since those that snore really want to stop, these products benefit from a strong desire to purchase them, and the sense of urgency that comes from wanting a solution now.

The Cost
The SONA Anti Snore Pillow is $42 at Amazon and gets shipped for free. Compared to other specialty pillows, and other anti-snoring devices that go in the mouth or around the head, this is comparatively and competitively price respectively.

The Commitment
Unlike other anti-snoring aids, your commitment level is pretty low with this, at least after the first week or so. You really only need to swap out your current pillow with this one, but you have to resolve yourself to learning how to sleep on your side. This is something that might not sound hard, but is easier said than done for some people. The longer you’ve slept on your back, the harder it’s going to be for you to stop. But if you stick it out you’ll eventually get use to the idea, and it’s actually a rather comfortable position to sleep in.

Evaluation
The SONA Anti Snore Pillow is well built and you will easily be able to see that it is not something that is just thrown together. They’ve done their best to bring you a pillow that you can have for several years, and one that you will want to keep for that long if it stops the snoring problem. Many people that have used it have said that it has helped them or the person they love stop snoring completely, or to drastically reduce the intensity level to the point of normalcy.

What you’re really going for here is something that will reduce your snoring to the point where it doesn’t stop your breathing while you’re sleeping, forcing you to wake yourself up to remember to breathe. You also want to get the volume level down so you don’t disturb your partner or wake yourself up from the noise.

Getting Used to This Pillow
The reason that many people have said it doesn’t work is because it didn’t work instantly for them. If you’ve slept on your back for decades you’re not going to be able to become a side sleeper overnight. It’s going to feel awkward, you’re going to lie awake staring at the wall, fidgeting around trying to get comfortable. It’s the same as when a stomach or side sleeper tries to sleep on their back.

A resounding number of people that say it works say that it takes some getting used to. So be ready to give this a good try, at least for a few weeks before you make your mind up, and understand that you might have a few rough nights before you finally reach the promised land.

Final SONA Anti Snore Pillow Review

The SONA Anti Snore Pillow works in many cases, and more people have said they like it than said they didn’t. Compared to using an ordinary pillow this has enough extra features to make it a good buy at this price point. The positive reviews provide convincing evidence that this will work for most people if given enough of a chance.

Our Recommendation
We recommend this as a great way to stop your snoring problem because it doens’t involve the use of any mouthpieces, which are known to fall out during your sleep. With this it keeps your head free of any headgear, and your mouth free of any devices. You get more natural, restful sleep, and the pillow is designed to fit right into the nook of your neck and shoulder, so it provides all of the support you need, right where you need it.

Snorer from hell August 22, 2012 at 2:15 pm

One thing that I like about it is that is FDA cleared, but these types of products there’s only one way to find out if they work, and that’s to try them out yourself. At 42 dollars is not too expensive, but it’s definitely not a cheap try. If it works though, I’ll happily fork out that money.

I bought the pillow yesterday and used it last last night and slept great! It did not totally eliminate my snoring (per my girlfriend) but it did help dramatically (per my girlfriend). I had some cocktails and should have snored bad but she said it was better than normal. I look forward to see how it does with no alcohol.
