Does Biofreeze Really Work?

0/5 - (1 vote)

Biofreeze offers several different products all designed to offer pain relief right at the source of the pain. They have a roll on, as well as several different creams, gels, and sprays so you can pick and choose how you want to get your pain relief. But what are people saying about how effective these are, and when you’re in pain can these really work to relieve it?

Overview
Pain relief is big business, and there are several companies out there all vying to be the king of the mountain when you’re hurting. Many people don’t like the thought of having to treat pain internally with the use of aspirin or prescription painkillers, so topical treatments are typically preferred if they show signs of working. These products seems to already have a sizable following, which is always a good sign, but it still merits a further look to see just what people think about it.

The Claim
The makers of Biofreeze claim that they have conducted a study that shows that 80% of those that try their new formula prefer it over other methods of pain relief. They also say that they have enhanced the formula, making it better than the first line due to over two years of research and testing. They say it works for several painful situations you might find yourself in, either through a sports injury, joint pain, arthritis, back pain, pains in the neck, hips, and legs, as well as the feet and ankles.

The go on to say that when you apply it it goes on quickly and easily and goes to work right away. They also state that their new formula is more natural than the original and that it’s totally free of parabens. They claim it also doubles as a skin conditioner, and that it’s non-greasy, doesn’t stain, and doesn’t stink the way some other gels and creams do. To top it all off they say that they don’t use animals in their testing, and that it’s an American made product.

The Hype
With the myriad of painful conditions they say this works on, there will be some hype behind it. This would appeal

to a wide market of people, from baby boomers to weekend warriors. Any time you have a product with a broad market to serve, and it starts showing signs of effectiveness, it hits that tipping point and there’s a bit of buzz around it.

The Cost
The cost depends on what size and type of Biofreeze you want. The prices range from less than $10 to more than $20 for some of the larger sizes. At these price points it makes it pretty easy to try out one and see how you like it. If it’s the method of delivery that you’re not liking you can always switch it out when it runs out.

The Commitment
What’s nice about this is that you can treat pain locally, providing an analgesic right where it hurts. This should provide more immediate relief than taking an aspirin or other pill and waiting the 20 minutes or so for it to start working. It should also leave the rest of your body and mind unaffected, so you won’t suffer from things like drowsiness or a general malaise that sometimes occurs when you take a general painkiller. Overall, since you only use this when and where you need it your commitment level is pretty low.

Evaluation
Biofreeze gets good reviews and ratings from those that have used it. Common reports are that it’s especially good at treating aches and pains in muscles, and that the different versions are a good way to go so that consumers can match it up with what they prefer. Many also point out that even though this is sold by doctors it’s a lot cheaper to get it online at places like Amazon because you’re cutting out the middle man, but also know that it’s doctor recommended.

They say that this uses cryotherapy, hence the freeze in Bio freeze, which is supposed to mimic the effects of putting an ice pack on the area. It’s important to understand that this isn’t fixing the cause of your pain, and you don’t want to think that you’ve gotten any better just because you feel better. If you have a sports injury you don’t want to use this and then go back out there and potentially injure yourself further.

Final Biofreeze Review

We’re giving Biofreeze our Thumbs Up review. Many companies get a product right and then sit back and relax while the money rolls in. What they’ve done here is taken a proven winner and made enhancements to it so that it’s better than the original. This shows that they’re serious about being in the game for the long term, and only leads one to assume that they’ll keep revamping their product as they learn more, and get more feedback from consumers.

Our Recommendation
There’s not a lot stopping you from going ahead with this one. If you’re in pain and looking for a more all natural way to get rid of it than taking an aspirin or other pill, this is a great way to go. By treating the pain directly at the source it provides quick relief, but you should also take steps to treat the cause of your pain if possible, and not just focus on the symptom.

What do you think? Does Biofreeze work or not?

  • used for shoulder pain in which my orthopedic specialist stated I have bone on bone & need replacement surgery. Thought it might reduce the pain some but didn't do anything.

  • I am in constant pain with my knees and tried Biofreeze today for the first time. I am amazed and delighted! It really works. Normally, especially when driving, the pain is almost unbearable, but not today after applying this miracle roll on. One very satisfied customer.

  • It will depend on the cause of your pain as to how effective Biofreeze can be for you. For sprains, strains, inflammation, etc...this can work great. If you have moderate to severe pain, as in the case of say bone on bone in the knee, etc, then this prob cannot provide that amount of relief! Let's not forget about the "inactive ingredients" which can also fight inflammation and promote healing:)

  • This product burned my skin and did not work. Biofreeze Gel. I want my money back. Sold to me by Corrine Krueger Minot ND in 2017

  • 10% Mentol is just not enough. You are probably getting a placebo effect, if anything. No wonder the 10% wears off fast!

  • I have been using Biofreeze for a year and it does work I like it better than any other pain reliever.

  • It's just 10% Menthol. Menthol works as a "counter-irritant" so you don't feel the pain. The cause of the pain, of course, is still there. Menthol also works against mosquito bites. I picked up the spray on Amazon for under $10, and it's certainly less messy and more convenient than ointments and creams.

  • BIOFREEZE HAS HELPED ME WITH BACK PAIN. THE REAL REASON I BOUGHT IT WAS
BECAUSE I HAD HEARD THAT IT IS MARVELOUS FOR ANY KIND OF BITE.
I USED IT FOR MOSQUITO BITES AND IT REALLY REALLY RELIEVED THE ITCHING AND PAIN.
    CRAZY BUT IT IS TRUE.
