Does Colon Cleansing Really Work?

Rate this post

Almost everyone is looking for a way to rid their body of toxins, and one popular new way is to let colon cleansing to do the trick. From kits you can use at home to entire spa weekends dedicated to the process, it seems that cleaning out the colon is one of the most popular health treatments of the last few years.

What are Colon Cleansers and How Do They Work?
Yet another health idea that has been sweeping the country, according to many manufacturers and health proponents, undergoing a colon cleanse is essential to your continued health.  Basically, these treatment plans are said to strip your colon of dangerous bacteria that grows in your body. The process is essentially pushing a high-fiber supplement through your digestive tract.  Some even say that excess bowels become stuck and rot within your colon, leading to constipation, obesity, and other various health issues.

By undergoing the treatment process, though, proponents say that your colon is cleared of any bacteria, making you healthier, and improving your metabolism.  There are various treatment methods. Some have you take a pill and drink quite a bit of water over a two day period. Others have you drink a special tea over a period of days. Some treatment facilities do what is called hydrotherapy where your colon is literally washed of any possible bacteria. Each company seems to have its own method of cleansing.

What Are The Benefits?
Again, according to health proponents across the country, colon cleansing is one of the

best things to do to your body.  What’s more, it is said to improve your rate of metabolism, leading to a lower body weight.  Along with an improved metabolism, having a cleansed colon is said to help improve your body’s intake of vitamins and other nutrients that are found in the food you digest.

Many proponents have suggested that modern diets are low on natural fibers, due to an excess of processed foods.  This lack of fiber can supposedly lead to a dangerously bacteria-filled colon.  Various colon cleansers on the market place their focus directly on this, putting themselves out as “7-day cleanse” products, injecting your body with a large, natural dose of fiber.  This is said to flush any parasites that may be living within your colon, along with toxins that inhibit nutrient absorption.

Most who suggest a colon cleanse as the way to a healthy body have said that the danger in letting the toxins build up is that your other organs have to overwork themselves to compensate for the problem. This can supposedly lead to more serious health conditions including irritable bowel syndrome and urinary tract infections.

What’s the Bottom Line? Does Colon Cleansing Really Work?

Colon cleansing has been making its way through the American health market for the past few years.  There are many who promote the positive effects of these treatments, saying they can effectively help you lose weight and clear your body of unwanted toxins that may inhibit proper nutritional supplementation.  There is no doubt that many Americans are enjoying what they

call the undeniable benefits of having a clean colon. On the other end of the spectrum, though, there are some doctors who have suggested that the colon is designed to cleanse itself and a more natural, diet based effort can lead to a cleaner, healthier colon.

According to them, a colon cleanse treatment that induces a detoxified colon can also cause some serious health side effects, such as malnutrition and dehydration.

Because of the controversy over colon cleansing, the question of whether your body best knows how to clear itself of parasites taking up residence in your colon or whether you must help your body to do so will remain until conclusive evidence can be found.
