Does Dog-e-Minder Really Work?

Does it realy work?

Does Dog-e-Minder really work?Dog-e-Minder wants to be your dog’s new best friend, but should you let them usurp your role? They claim to be able to help you keep track of the basic things you do to take care of a dog. This would definitely be something useful for many households, and if nothing else it displays your dog’s name and your phone number in case they get lost. So does this get a buy or a pass?

The Dog-e-Minder sounds like it would be a dog training device, but actually it’s an electronic dog tag with three simple buttons on it that let you track when you last walked, fed, or medicated your dog. They definitely got the basics covered, and there’s not really another product on the market that’s quite like it.

In order to work it you just press the medication button when you give the dog its meds. Press the walk button when you take it for a walk, and press the food button when the dog gets fed. If you’re ever in doubt as the last time you did any of these things, it will tell you the history and you can make your decision from there. You actually have to press and hold the button for 3 seconds when you do the activity, and just press it to view the previous time.

The Claim
This product says that it is the perfect assistant for dog owners. Actually, the perfect assistant would be the one that walks, feeds, and medicates your dog for you so you can just enjoy the fun. But this is maybe the 2nd best assistant, especially if you’re forgetful, or if you share responsibilities with another family member or your partner. This way you can share information and everyone in the house knows the status of Fido.

The Hype
The product has made its way onto many local news shows, and has gotten a lot of other press. It is pretty innovative, and relates to pets, and people get very emotional when it comes to their beloved dogs. That’s why there’s a bit of hype on this, especially since it doesn’t do anything that’s completely remarkable. Even Tomagachi toys reminded you when they needed to be fed.

The Cost
It’s just one payment of $24 to get your own Dog-e-Minder, and you can choose from among 4 different colors. This seems to be a reasonable price for something that also works to identify your dog, and lists a number for people to call if they find your dog on the loose.

The Commitment
This product is all about your commitment level. It’s a historical device, not a alarm. It won’t remind you to feed your dog, walk your dog, or give your dog its medication. You have to remember to push the button when you do these things, or it will not function correctly, and could even cause a dangerous situation. For example if you give your dog its medication and you forget to hit the button, but later want to check if you did and the device says you didn’t, you might give them an extra dose.

This device would come in handy if you have more than one dog in your home, or if there are lots of family members in charge of taking care of them. It’s also great if you have a dog walker walk your dog for you, or if you have a lot on your plate and can’t be bothered to keep track of the minutia associated with your dog. It’s also good to have when you go on vacation and have someone watch your dog for you, especially if they’re not a dog owner and this is all new to them.

It’s been noted that it would be a better invention if it actually reminded you to take your dog for a walk, and to feed your dog, as the name implies that it’s a reminder. Maybe Dog-e-Minder 2.0 will have this feature installed.

Other than that it’s solid. It’s durable, so you can put it on even the most active dog and not worry about it bouncing around or falling off. The battery is also designed to last a while so you won’t have to constantly be taking it off and putting it back on to replace it.

Final Dog-e-Minder Review

The Dog-e-Minder works if you work it. It’s a pretty good way to communicate between different humans to coordinate the care-taking of your pet. If you’re looking for something that will remind you to take care of your dog, then this is not the system for you.

Our Recommendation
If you saw the ad and thought it would be helpful, definitely pick one up for each of your dogs. Even though the device is said to be lightweight, it’s probably not recommended for the smallest breeds.

What do you think? Does Dog-e-Minder work or not?

This can’t be a serious product?!?
Surely if you need a product like this you shouldn’t be in charge of an animal.

How can somebody not know when they last fed or walked their dog?
And if they can’t remember that, how are they going to remember to press the button on the tag?

Not really been thought through in my opinion.
Useless product, waste of money.

I agree that it seems like it isn’t worth it for people who are having a hard time remembering to care for their pet, because it doesn’t have a reminder on it, and they would probably just as likely forget to press the button. But this would be a good product for people who share the care for the dog. If you live with more than one person and want to make sure you can keep track of who last fed or medicated him/her, then this is a great idea. I can see this especially for a dog who needs medicine, you wouldn’t want your husband to give the dog medicine and you not know, and give him another dose. For that reason, this might be worth it, I think.

I am thinking the same thing you are. Are they serious? If you have to have a device to remind you to walk or feed your dog, then you don’t need a dog! I can see having something to note vet appointments, but with smart phones this day, this would eliminate this device. This is one of those products that people buy when they have more money than common sense. It’s crazy, but you know they are selling this silly product. I am in the wrong business. I should think of stupid ideas and do it.

An ideal gadget for irresponsible pet owners who neglect their pets by for getting to feed or walk their own dog(s). It’s bad enough if you can’t remember to feed your dog but isolating your dog isn’t a good ideal either. I agree with RLG that smart phones have the capabilities of handing this for you without even needing this product. It seems more less than helpful. I’ll pass on this and just use my smart phone instead. It’s probably cheaper to do too!
