Overview
It comes in a nice size that should fit most hands comfortably. It comes standard with 30 different accessories, so you won’t be stuck from the start and forced to buy upgrades just to get it to do what you want it to. It’s got polishers and sanders, and can work in 360 degrees so you there’s not much it can’t do. It can get into small areas, and allow you to take care of detailed work pretty easily. You can carve things, engrave items, as well as cut, grind, route, and clean, all with the same tool. The overwhelming majority of people say that it does in fact do all of these things.
The Claim
The Dremel 4000 claims to have a high performance motor that will be able to handle all of your jobs, at any speed. It also has a feedback system that keeps things steady no matter what speed you use it at. You can change the different speed levels, but maintain control and do a precision job. There is also a power switch that is separate from the speed dial so you don’t have to worry about turning it off when you meant to simply adjust the speed.
They also claim that it is easy to change the different accessories, so you can switch between different jobs and not waste a lot of time. It won’t overhead on you because it uses a ball bearing system so it operates smoothly and quietly. If you’ve ever used other rotary tools, you’ll appreciate this feature. Finally, they say that it has replaceable brushes in the motor, so it extends the life of the tool and that’s why it comes with a 5 year warranty.
The Hype
The hype is that this is one tool that is supposed to be able to handle a lot of jobs around the home. The basic promise is that you will need to have less tools,
The Cost
You can grab the Dremel 4000 for $80 at Amazon and have it shipped to your door free. Not a bad price for a well-reviewed power tool that has so many uses.
The Commitment
A lot of guys – and gals – like the “idea” of being a handyman or handywoman, but when it comes down to actually doing the work there’s a mental block. If you have a lot of tools collecting dust and you think this one will be different, resist the urge to buy or you’ll just have another tool lying around doing nothing. However, if you’re the kind of person that uses a tool until it breaks down, then this should fit nicely into your tool belt. If your hobby is your passion then you will definitely find plenty of ways to use this.
Evaluation
The Dremel 4000 is one of those products that has lopsided reviews. The good news is that they are heavily weighted towards the positive side. Most people say that this does in fact work, which is remarkable because there seems to be a lot of room for user error and incompetence. After all, a tool is only as good as its user, so perhaps that explains the very few people that said they don’t like it.
The Dremel 4000 works, but you’ll just have to make sure that you use it. If you’re a tool hound, or are considering this for a Father’s Day gift for dad, you are probably wondering if he’ll get enough use out of it to justify the purchase. Even though they tout its versatility, it is still a question of how often you’ll use it. If you’re always fixing little things around the house, you should definitely get this, you won’t regret it and won’t look back, but you may wonder how you got along without it.
Our Recommendation
We’re recommending this for the guy who has everything, and also for the guy that doesn’t have anything. It’s perfect for a tool nut that just has to have a tool for each little job, but it’s also for the wannabe handyman that wants to start doing projects and needs an all-around tool that can be used for several different tasks.

I own a 4000 and use it everyday. I sculpt in wood and the 4000 is my go to tool for both rough and detail cutting.
My only concern is that this model in particular seems a little heavy but other than that if it has the Dremel name you can’t go wrong really. I have this battery operated wireless Dremel rotary tool that I also almost every other week and it’s awesome. I’ve used other brands and Dremel is by far the best… no ifs ands or buts about it. And this 4000 model looks pretty sweet.
