Do Essie Top Coats Really Work?

Rate this post

Essie Top Coats are finishers that you put on over your nails to help protect the color and keep your nails from chipping. Essie products get pretty good reviews across the board, but how do their top coats work as a nail strengthener?

Overview
Essie makes several products for nails, mostly nail polishes in different shades. They have products to help keep your cuticles looking good and healthy, and they also have base coats and treatments. Here we’ll take a look at their top coats and see how they measure up to other nail strengtheners on the market.

The Claim
There are three main Essie Top Coats to choose from: Good to Go, No Chips Ahead, and All in One. They each have slightly different claims as to how they should be used, but overall they are meant to strengthen the nail, prevent chips, and keep your color and manicure going strong for several days or even weeks longer. Good to Go says that it is quick drying so you don’t have to wait around long for it to set. No Chips Ahead says it protects against chipping, fading, and peeling so you can keep your color longer. And All in One says it can be used in multiple ways depending on what you need.

The Hype
There really isn’t much hype involved, the products are basically presented and their features are shown. There is a positive buzz surrounding Essie in general, with many passing along the info to their friends that they make good polish. Some nail strengtheners come with exaggerated claims that they can make your nails last for an extended amount of time that might seem nice, but isn’t too likely.

The Cost
A bottle of the different Essie top coats ranges from around $5 or $6 depending on where you buy it from, and which one you go with. This is quite reasonable and competitive with other products of the same nature.

There are some nail strengtheners out there that go for $20 or more so it’s a bit refreshing to see one that is priced at a point where you could really use it as much as you want without worrying too much about the cost.

The Commitment
If these perform as described it would mean that you’d have to color your nails less often, and potentially not have to get your nails done as often. This would be a big reduction both in the amount of time you have to spend on your nails, but also the costs involved. Even if it added one week to your polish job over the course of 4 months it would save you an entire trip to the salon. That alone makes it worth trying out to see how long it can extend the finished look.

Evaluation
Essie Top Coats are well-received by users, and all three get good reviews. It’s important to note that there aren’t just a few people saying that these are great, it’s a substantial number of users all in agreement that this is both worth the cost, and also worth the time of applying it. Sometimes it can be hard to tell if a strengthener is working, but with these it’s almost unanimous that it makes a positive difference in the overall health and strength of the nails.

When choosing a top coat it’s always good to think of what you really need it for. Do you need something that is going to strengthen up your nail because you tend to have weak nails prone to breaking and peeling? Or perhaps your nails are generally healthy and strong and you just want something to go over your color so that it lasts longer and can handle the wear that comes with daily use. Be sure to read the descriptions for each top coat they offer so that you can choose the one that best lines up with what you need.

Final Essie Top Coats Review

We’re giving Essie Top Coats our Thumbs Up rating due to the positive feedback they’ve received, as well as the attractive price point. It’s not often that you can get a top quality product at a low cost, and have it deliver on the results it promises. We couldn’t find any indication that these top coats don’t provide a great experience, and live up to expectations in regard to how long they help your nails last.

Our Recommendation
It’s good to have a range of products to choose from when it comes to your nails. That way you can choose what’s best in the moment and give your nails what they need when they need it. Essie products have proven themselves over and over again to deliver, so you know that you’re getting a market-tested product with a high probability of satisfying you as a consumer.

What do you think? Does Essie Top Coats work or not?

  • I am the ultimate cheapskate when it comes to actually visiting a nail salon and getting a manicure. Essie is to blame for this because the quality of their polish is amazing! Why spend money (other than wanting those awesome hand massages you get) at a salon when you can get your Essie on at home? This Good to Go Top coat is the bee's knees as far as top coats go because of it's long-lasting, sheen finish. I purchased one of these and it literally lasted for months and months, with the consistency staying the same. You can always count on an Essie polish and this one is no different.
