Does a GreenWorks Lawn Mower Really Work?

Does GreenWorks Lawn mower work?A battery powered lawn mower seems like it’s long overdue, and that’s the promise of the GreenWorks Lawn Mower. In a Utopian society every household would be using one of these, as it doesn’t use gas to run, and isn’t polluting the environment every Saturday for the weekly chore. But it’s only a good buy if it can actually work as well as a gas powered mower, and produce the same sort of results.

Overview
Small gas powered tools like lawn mowers, edgers, and weedwhackers are really bad for the environment. Some people use electric mowers, but those are kind of a pain because the cord gets in the way, and limits your mobility. By using a Lithium Ion battery, the folks at GreenWorks are hoping to finally solve the problem of mowing your grass the green way, and without any hassle from a cord.

The Claim
GreenWorks claims that their mowers leave a zero carbon footprint so you can feel better about the time spent in the yard, and not worry that you’re contributing to the destruction of the planet. Electric mowers have been around for decades now, but GreenWorks is one of the first out there to get it to work with a battery instead of a super-long extension cord you see most people using.

If you’re not really in to the whole “green” movement, you can still appreciate that you don’t have to mess with the little red can of gas, or trips to the gas station to fill it up. You also don’t have to worry about spilling it all over as you try to navigate the gas into the mower. And if you’ve ever complained about the racket your gas mower makes, you’ll appreciate the quiet operation you get from going electric. Your neighbors will appreciate it to, especially if you like to get an early start on the yardwork.

The Hype
The hype is that it’s a battery powered lawn mower! That’s pretty cool, no matter how you cut it. It was only a matter of time before they built a battery that could hold enough of a charge for you to get around your yard. Many of the models they carry feature enough power to get you through a quarter acre, which is plenty for most suburb dwellers.

The Cost
You’re probably thinking that a GreenWorks Lawn Mower is prohibitively expensive, the way a Tesla electric car is, but they’re not really overly priced. Depending on what size mower and what size cutting blade you can expect to pay anywhere from $150 to $300. It comes with a 4 year warranty, which is twice as much as you’ll get with a conventional mower, in case anything goes wrong with it. The battery itself is covered by a one year warranty against defects.

The Commitment
This may be battery powered, but you still have to walk it around your yard. It’s self-propelled, so it won’t take too much effort from you. The next step will be a Roomba style lawn mower that mows your lawn all by itself, the Automower, if you want to go full lazy, but those are wildly priced.

Evaluation
Creating a self-propelled, battery operated, zero emission lawn mower is something that they should be commended on, just for trying. But the reviews behind this back it up, and people are really happy with their GreenWorks mowers. An added benefit is that it’s quiet, so you won’t go deaf trying to get your grass clipped down.

Most people that have given their feedback on it have said that it lives up to, or exceeds expectation, and they haven’t had any problems using it as a replacement to their old gas mower. Even those that have used electric mowers in the past have said that the GreenWorks brand is quality stuff. There are a few people that didn’t like it, of course, but after evaluating their complaints it seemed to be one-time occurrences, and nothing that has enough significance to effect a purchase decision.

What Does Zero Emissions Mean?
The mower does use electricity, so it is using up resources and is not driven by human power alone, although some of their mowers are fully human-powered. Zero emissions means that there is nothing coming out of the mower in the form of exhaust that enters into the atmosphere and contributes to things like global warming and depletion of the ozone layer. It’s because the motor does not rely on fossil fuels like oil and gas, it is electric and therefore doesn’t spit out anything harmful.

Final Greenworks Lawn Mower Review

The GreenWorks lawn mower is getting our Thumbs Up because it is solidly built, doesn’t require a cord, and allows you to cut the entire lawn without needing to recharge. We like green products like this one, and this is giving us a glimpse of the future, so why not embrace it today? Since it’s only a little more than a conventional gas mower, and provides similar results, this is a good choice for anyone that cares about what sort of harm they’re doing to the planet.

Our Recommendation
It might be a little more expensive than a traditional gas powered mower, but considering that you won’t have to mess with gas at all, either the cost, the mess, or the fumes, it’s a good buy. Plus, you’ll be helping the environment, and reducing your carbon footprint overall. It’s a mower that can give you those warm, fuzzy feelings, and that’s enough to earn our nod of approval.

To be honest I’m not really into the whole “green movement”, I mean what’s the point of saving some carbon footprint when countries like China’s increasing their coal power plants like 3 a month or something. It’s just not worth it, but I do care about my convenience and this looks much easier to look after then the conventional gas powered mowers.
