Does Mesotherapy Really Work?

Rate this post

Mesotherapy has been getting more and more attention in the United States in recent years. It has been popular in Europe for decades, which usually fuels the fascination of Americans when they hear that something has been a big hit, and we’re just now finding out about it.

Overview
This involves injecting certain areas of the body with a cocktail of different all-natural ingredients. The purpose will vary depending on what your end goal is. If it’s fat loss then the mixture will be designed to kill off fat cells. If it’s for wrinkle removal it will be filled with anti-wrinkle or anti-aging ingredients. There are a lot of unknowns, like what exactly is the make up of what’s in the syringe, and an explanation of why this all natural mix is effective.

The Claim
Proponents of mesotherapy treatments say that it can help with all sorts of problems, like fatty areas, wrinkles and lines on the face, and to detoxify the body. They claim that you can get amazing results, similar to the sort of results you’d get from a surgical procedure or a plastic surgeon, but without the pain, recovery time, and high cost of those procedures.

The Hype
Of course there is a lot of hype surrounding this because it is a way to get rid of fat in one day, rather than spending months and months trying to burn it off in the gym. It is also a holistic treatment, and there is a bit of a battle going on between holistic medicine and traditional medicine, with each taking pot shots on the other whenever they can.

The Cost
Mesotherapy treatments vary in cost by how much fat you want to have removed, which doctor you go with, and your demographic location. Since it is non-surgical it is often cheaper than many cosmetic procedures.

The Commitment
This is one of those treatments that doesn’t require a lot of effort on your part, which is why

it’s so popular. It’s similar to liposuction in that it is supposed to rid your body of fat cells without having to diet and exercise. It’s a way of killing the cells directly using a mix of all natural ingredients.

Evaluation
Mesotherapy is most likely not a scam, but also not everything it’s cracked up to be, and also potentially dangerous. Since the concoction of ingredients varies from place to place there is no really good way to know what you’re getting. There’s no standardization or best practices. It is pretty much up to the practitioner that you go with, and what they decide will do the trick. It will probably never have the sort of organization that it needs in order to become a valid treatment option.

Modern Medicine Weighs In
The medical community likes to scrutinize things like this, but they usually don’t give a very strong reason for the criticism. Just because something hasn’t been tested, doesn’t mean it doesn’t work. It’s not like scientists can test every single procedure that gets performed. Holistic procedures like these are usually left untested, and for that reason they get a lot of negative attention. In many cases the results are deemed inconclusive, which doesn’t really help their cause.

They haven’t been able to prove that it works, but they also havne’t been able to disprove it either, so it’s still a gray area in regards to its effectiveness. It will really depend on what sort of practitioner you go with. If you go with a quack, they are just trying to sell you on the treatment and don’t really care about your health or your results.

If you don’t get results there are any number of reasons they can give for it not working, with the default answer that you just don’t respond to this sort of treatment. However, if you choose someone that is trying to do the best job they can, you’ll have a higher chance of seeing results and getting a better treatment. Always look for testimonials and third-party reviews before agreeing to anything.

Final Mesotherapy Review

The quackery level is pretty high with this one. They say that mesotherapy can be used for all sort of different applications and is an alternative to everything from Botox to liposuction. But with no scientific backing behind it, and recent studies conducted that show no benefits, we’re going to have to give this one the “Probably Not” review.

Our Recommendation
We’d all love a quick fix, but unfortunately this isn’t the one. If you want to remove fat from areas of your body, stick to liposuction instead. If you are thinking of using this to remove wrinkles on your face, go with Botox. These are both proven effective in the medical community. Do they have their risks? Yes, of course, but so do all-natural treatments so be sure to remember that while you’re deciding on what to do.

What do you think? Does Mesotherapy work or not?

  • I've heard about mesotherapy for some time now and I've been interested in it but I'm yet to try it. It sounds interesting and it feels like it could work. What I really want is something for my weight loss and wrinkles, but I'm still not sold completely in this. It doesn't help that it doesn't get a positive review here either. Still thinking...
