Does The Rac Really Work?

Does the Rac work? The Rac is a way to store your guns and firearms that says it’s just as secure as as gun safe but makes it more convenient to get your guns in and out. So does it really work that well?

It’s very important to keep your gun secure because if you don’t it could end up being used against you, or causing a tragic accident within your own home. You bought your gun for safety and defense, so the last thing you want is for the opposite to happen. There are gun safes out there that will keep your gun secure, but they can be hard or slow to open, which defeats the purpose of self defense if you can’t get to your gun in time to protect yourself or your family.

The Claim
The makers of The Rac say that it can withstand up to 4700 pounds of pressure, which means that if someone is trying to get your gun free without the key they are going to have a bear of a time getting it undone. They also say that you can take your guns out of the rack quickly and easily, more so than if you were to use a gun safe that locks the entire gun in an actual safe. Here the guns are in plain view, but cannot be removed or fired from their locked position. They say that the design is patented, so you won’t be able to find the exact same product elsewhere.

The Hype
The hype here is that they say it’s being used by law enforcement to hold their guns. This would be one heck of an endorsement for the product. They say it is used by the Department of Defense, which would mean that they can basically choose to have any security measures to hold their guns, and they’ve chosen The Rac over anything else.

The Cost
The total cost of The Rac is $154 which includes shipping. Compared to most standard gun safes this is right on as far as a price point goes. There are of course larger or more sophisticated gun safes that go for much more than this. But you have to keep in mind that The Rac can hold all sizes and types of guns, so you won’t have to buy a different size or shaped gun safe, you can store them all in one place.

The Commitment
You’ll need to secure The Rac to something, as it doesn’t do much good until it is fastened to a wall, the floor, or the trunk of your car. This is a one-time task, and once it is in place your only job is to take the gun in and out, which is as easy as inserting the key and moving the arm over so your gun can come out.

The Rac is hands down easier than using a gun safe, and potentially makes it more secure. There are some gun safes out there that use biometrics to make sure that you’re the one that accesses the gun, such as reading your fingerprints in order to open it. Here they’re using a key, so your guns are secure as long as you still have the key. This means that you have to be very careful with your key and where you keep it.

This is made out of high-carbon steel, so it’s definitely strong and is going to be really tough to cut through, break, or even bend. Once you have it locked and in place you’ll notice that the gun is completely unable to be removed or fired. Even though it’s right in plain view, it is safe and can’t be used against you or taken from its spot the way a loose safe can be taken and opened later.

Final The Rac Review

The Rac does what it says, and doesn’t make too many outlandish claims. It’s clear that it’s a good choice, as it is being used by law enforcement officials to keep their guns secure and out of the hands of criminals. The only better gun storage and security solution we found was the GunVault SVB 500 which senses your fingerprints before it opens. This is the only quicker way we know of to get your gun when you need it, and not have it fall into the wrong hands. But that is $330 so The Rac seems to be the more economical choice.

Our Recommendation
However you decide to keep your gun stored safely, it’s important to make sure that it’s not possible for it to be stumbled upon by a little one, or an intruder. Too many stories exist where the wrong person wound up with a gun, and it ended up being used on the homeowner, or a child ended up hurting or killing themselves or someone else with it accidentally.

What do you think? Does The Rac work or not?

A gun rack? A gun rack. I don’t even own, A gun, let alone many guns that would necessitate an entire rack. What am I gonna do, with a gun rack?
Words of wisdom there from Mr Mike Myers, courtesy of Wayne’s World.
But seriously, I had to comment on this because it’s a strange contraption to my eyes. You see, in England, we are not permitted to have guns because we’ve found that they kill people, and that having a populace allowed to run around with them tends to lead to lots of dead people. So being in a situation to require storage for multiple guns is odd indeed. That being said, if I did own guns, this rack seems quite cheap. Although you’re supposed to fasten it to a wall which sounds like a massive pain in the ass.

You will not be able to tell people in America whether or not they can own guns, nor will you be able to control how many guns they can own because they are legally allowed to buy them. I feel that any products that are made available on the market that are meant to securely keep guns in a safe place away from children are good ideas. With all of the recent shootings, both intentional and accidental, it is good to know that products like this one are being developed that will make keeping a gun safer for everyone.
