Does Veet Really Work?

1/5 - (1 vote)

Veet is a line of hair removal products designed to be an alternative to shaving and waxing. They claim to be the world’s number one brand of depilatory products, which surely Nair would love to debate. So how well do they actually work for real users?

Overview
Everyone is pretty much in agreement that shaving your legs is not the best way to go. The results don’t last very long, and there is a high chance that you could end up irritating your skin. Waxing doesn’t fare much better since it can be pretty painful even though the results last longer. Depilatory creams have been around for quite some time and promise smooth skin without having to shave or wax.

The Claim
Veet claims that their product line is made up of products that can get your skin smooth without the irritation of shaving and without the pain of waxing. They say that the results last longer than other hair removal methods, and they said that you’re able to remove hair from pretty much any part of your body, you just have to pick the right product for the area you want to treat.

They say their waxing strips can last up to 4 weeks, and that they’re specially formulated to go on as a liquid so they stick to the hairs better and really grab hold. This is supposed to make it better than using a regular wax that can leave smaller hairs behind.

The Hype
Some of the hype comes from them being so ubiquitous, being in several different continents and basically available worldwide. But also there is the concept of being able to remove your hair without having to suffer through waxing or shave everyday. This is an alluring enough proposition for most people to say they will give it a try. Plus at this price point, it makes it easy to try without breaking the bank.

The Cost
Veet products tend to be reasonably priced, and definitely competitively priced when you compare it to similar products from Nair. You can find most of the products from the $5 to the $10 range, with the price depending on what exactly you’re buying and which area

you’re trying to treat. Salon treatments for waxing can be far more expensive than this, so if you can get the same sort of results from home, and with less pain it seems like it might be a winner.

The Commitment
This should represent a reduction in your commitment level, because using a depilatory cream is supposed to remove more of the hair than shaving does. When you shave your only shaving hair down to the surface of the skin, but when you use to clean like this you are supposed to be burning up the hair even below the skin, getting down to the cuticle and fully removing the hair.

Evaluation
As you’d expect, the Veet line gets mixed reviews. What is interesting to note is that they do get a lot of seemingly genuine positive reviews from actual users. This means that under the right circumstances, and under the right conditions, you might find that this is a solution for you. The reason we’ve come to expect mixed reviews from a hair removal product is that there are just too many variances in skin types, and hair types. When you combine the two, it’s a recipe for mixed reactions and responses.

You can take some comfort from the fact that several people that have tried it experienced the sort of success that you’d want from this. What you wouldn’t want to see is a completely negative slant towards it not working, and that’s not what we see here. There’s simply no way that they could produce a hair removal product that would appeal to everyone that uses it. After reviewing several products of this nature, we’re pretty confident that most people would be happy with this purchase.

There are few things to consider when using any sort of depilatory cream like this. The product works by using chemicals to burn up the hair, which is why one of the more common complaints is it burning sensation on the skin. Even though they say it is okay for sensitive skin, those with extremely sensitive skin will probably still feel some sort of irritation. You have to weigh the costs versus the benefits and compare to your other options to see which one makes the most sense, and provides the fewest drawbacks.

Final Veet Review

We’re giving Veet our Solid Try rating. All signs point to this being a quality hair removal product, but to increase the chances of success you want to have the right combination of skin type and hair type. If you have very thick, coarse hair, sitting atop very sensitive skin you probably won’t respond well to this. But if you have fine hair with relatively impervious skin, you’ll likely be happy with the results.

Our Recommendation
At this price point it’s kind of hard not to give this a try, just to see how your body responds to it. No matter which product you go with, you’re only going to be out around $10, and with many people reporting success with this, it could be a very cost effective solution for you. It might not be something you use every time you want to get rid of your hair, but it can help you not have to shave or wax every single time.

What do you think? Does Veet work or not?

  • I agree with Kimmy, I absolutely hate shaving because it is so painful! Sadly though, I did not experience any positive results with the Veet, simply due to my less than cooperating hair type. However, I will say that they products itself always (1) has a pleasant if not slightly strong scent and (2) is incredibly affordable. Overall, I would say that if your body responds well to their formula Veet is a great buy. They have an extremely wide variety of products for different hair removal needs, such as legs, underarms, bikini areas, etc. Overall, this is a great drugstore buy!

  • I don't know if its the age catching up or just my skin that's gotten overly sensitive, but I hate shaving because it hurts so much. I've always hated waxing anyways, so that has never changed and Nair has never worked all that effectively, at least for me. It's only 5 bucks for a bottle of Veet anyways, it's worth a try at least.
