Rate this post

Enhancing your health the natural way is a good thing, but how do you know what is going to work for you and how do you avoid making the mistake of choosing the wrong products and resources that are geared towards better health? Let’s take a look Chia seeds and how they fit into this category.

Overview
Okay now when you hear of Chia chances are your thoughts are going to go to those adorable little green plants that can be structured to take on the similarities in looks to cute little animals. Your thoughts will not be totally wrong, because it is the chia seeds that gives the lush look to these novelty plants. In this case though, we are focusing on the potential health benefits of the chia seeds. They are loaded with omega 3 fatty acids and fiber which are two important buzz words of the health community. These seeds are becoming quite popular as a food staple.

The Claim
It depends on which manufacturer of the specific product you are looking at when it comes to the claim. We took a look at what the Huffington Post had to say about this item, and were quite impressed with its findings. The health indicators are that it components may be beneficial for boosting energy, stabilization of blood sugar and may help to lower cholesterol.

The Hype
When it comes to health, and you can add the word natural to it then it doesn’t take much hype to draw the attention to any product that is using these terms in their marketing material. Many more people are now becoming more self aware of what they can do to help with their overall well being, and are looking at more health prevention alternatives, rather than for cures of

ailments that have already surfaced. We wanted to look at a specific Chia product and chose the Nutiva seeds for this. It happens to be a top 100 sellers product at Amazon, plus it had a lot of reviews to rely on.

The Cost
Based on the Nutiva Organic Chia Seeds, 32 Ounce pricing for a 2 package supply of this you can get it for $41.99. It also comes in different sizes as well, so if you want to first try it you can go with the smaller version.

The Commitment
Any time that you are going to become pro-active with your health takes both a time and money commitment. You may have noticed that whenever you go to buy something that is marked as organic it is much more costly. So you are going to have to make up your mind to pay a bit more for natural food additives that are getting a lot of attention. The next thing you will have to conform to is consistency in its use. If you are going to start adding chia seeds to your food staples, then you are going to have to be faithful at doing this so you can eventually determine if they are adding any value to your overall health. In the past we have recommended what some dub as super fruits to the diet which help to enhance health, and one of those that we chose to talk about was the Bundles of Berries which put you in control of how organic they would be.

Evaluation
Looking for natural alternatives to help increase your health potential is a good thing, but only if it works as marketed and doesn’t prey on your health needs. In general the average person is becoming more knowledgeable about prevention when it comes to their health, so it is important to bring good alternatives out into the light. Overall the Chia seeds just might fit into this category.

Final Chia Seeds Review

We are going to give the Chia seeds a solid try/buy and particularly the Nutiva brand. Simply because it has a lot of good feedback and when it comes to health enhancement you want to know how others are rating a product based on its claims.

Our Recommendation
Always remember that too much of a good thing can be just as detrimental to your health as not enough. Also, just because a product is natural doesn’t mean that you can’t have an allergy to it. Whenever you are going the natural route do so with caution and introduce yourself to the product you are trying with a common sense attitude.

  • Better yet, if you are a member of a warehouse club, like Costco or Sam's Club, pick up a bag the next time you're in the store. The prices are much better and the sizes might be a bit bigger (hard to tell for sure). In addition to Nutriva, FlaxUSA makes one, too.

Chia sees are usually soaked in water before eating them in order to soften them. Otherwise, they are very crunchy. The water becomes turns into a soft jelly-like consistency, and it will thicken up sauces quite nicely--use it instead of adding flour to broths.

I don't really find them to have much of a taste by themselves. Definitely NOT an unpleasant taste. I usually toss about a tablespoon of chia seeds (dry) or ground flax seed onto a salad for a health boost. Instead, if it's a tuna or egg salad, I might mix the chia (presoaked) in with the tuna or egg mix. Chia (and flax seeds) are great in smoothies, too. Just remember that dry chia seeds will thicken liquids, so if you don't want your moisture to be locked away, soak the seeds for about 2 minutes before adding them to your smoothie or whatever.

I think they are great. Who knew that a plant I used to only know from those silly Chia Heads could actually produce a great little versatile seed like this. :-)
