They both share many of the same features, and you’ll be able to accomplish many of the same tasks. They look very similar, and come in many of the same colors. Many users of both have said that

they could only tell the difference when the jobs got to be too big in scale, and that’s when the Artisan mixer started to lag behind. But you can’t expect a machine to work beyond its capacity and still produce reliable results.

Dollar for dollar we’re giving the victory to the Artisan model, based on it being able to do just about everything the Professional 600 Series can do, just on a somewhat smaller scale. For a large percentage of American families the Artisan line will satisfy all of their needs. If you’re feeding an army or are going to be using the blender for your business, you should upgrade to the Pro 600, as it’s a fine blender with excellent reviews. But for an apples to apples comparison you should size it up against competing professional mixers.

If you’ve had trouble in the past with ordinary-grade mixers, go for the Pro model because it doesn’t leave anything on the table and is still a good value for the money. It’s a mixer that you don’t have to worry about replacing for a very long time, and many users report having their KitchenAid mixers for several years, even over a decade, so the cost isn’t such a factor when spread over a long period of time.

    • True. That is what it has. And it has the slower start up for no splatter and if it senses that it could overheat or overwork it has a automatic shut off.

  • I just got the Artisian. It's perfect. I just don't need a large mixer. I only cook for one or two at the time anyway. I do love and enjoy it. So perfect!

  • I love the old fashioned one, and haven't really even used it to its fullest extent. Even though these mixers have always been relatively pricey, there's a good reason for that. They last forever. My DREAM would be to have a need for the professional mixer since that would mean I was a more accomplished cook who loved to entertain! I do think they're a good idea for those people who need them, though. My sister does a lot of catering and would not be able to survive with the Artisan model. To each his own. (I make a meaner potato salad.)

    • I agree with Rebecca A. So many of my friends and family have the more professional Kitchen Aid but they have a greater need for it then I would. I can't even remember the last cake I made at home. But even if you only use a Kitchen Aid occasionally it seems to be the equivalent of a Clarisonic or a Keurig; once you put the money down, you are glad you did and will never use anything else again. If I had to choose between the Artisan Stand Mixer or the Professional 600 Series, I would lean towards the Artisan.

  • I heard some great things about the Artisan too and I was actually going to grab one when a sales person talked me into looking at the professional 600 series. Too bad for her because in the end I couldn't make a decision until I did some digging on the internet. I also agree that I'll be happy with both models, but since I do have a large family and I do invite lots of friends over throughout the year, I think the pro 600 will be a slightly better choice for me.
