Does the LifeStraw Really Work?

Rate this post

The majority of us enjoy a nice drink of cold water, and many of usassume that the water we are drinking is pure and safe. But what if it’s not? Rather than take any chances you could rely on the LifeStraw.

Overview
While this is really classed as backpacking water treatment that is perfect for this because it is so compact and lightweight, it could be used in many other circumstances as well.

The Claim
The promoters claim that the LifeStraw is an award winning water treatment unit and has been used around the world since 2005. They say that it has the ability to filter 1,000 liters of contaminated water without having to add any other chemicals for this.

The Hype
The fact that it can remove a minimum 99.9999% of waterborne bacteria and that it removes a minimum 99.9% of waterborne protozoan parasites, plus surpasses the EPA standards is all the hype that is needed.

The Cost
You can get this amazing LifeStraw for only $19.95 if you purchase it on Amazon

The Commitment
Of course if you are a survivalist or a nature lover you are not going to want to leave home without the LifeStraw. Can you imagine how many bottles of water it will save you from having to carry!

Evaluation
Anything that promote safety such as this is well received by us.While the LifeStraw main use is for when there is no clean water available I wouldn’t hesitate to buy one for my kids, who are always leaving their water bottles open and sitting around half a day or so when they are out and about and busy. Who knows how clean the water is after it has been exposed like this.

Final LifeStraw Review

We of course are going to give the LifeStraw a thumbs up. It is definitely a must for the backpackers and adventurists. As well as travellers who are headed off to other countries. Then there are plenty of uses for it here in other settings like for those who live off of well water and are a bit concerned about the water quality. While it isn’t suited for large amounts of water purification, it would certainly work for the individual glasses of water until the problem can be rectified.

Our Recommendation
Do keep in mind that the LifeStraw is meant to be used like a straw for drinking. You cannot siphon water through it and transfer it to another container. So it really is one person use. It is so reasonably priced however, that it wouldn’t be a problem buying one for each family member. As said these are perfect for camping trips especially when going to areas where you are not sure about the water quality. If you are looking for an alternative where the straw just doesn’t appeal to you then you can take a look at the Nubo Bottle,

however be sure to check out its limitations.
