The concept of making slushies at home has been around for awhile, and these days it seems like the smarter alternative than spending anywhere from $1 to $3 for a slushed drink at the local convenience store. It represents just a one-time cost and can quickly rack up the savings if you’re a frequent Slurpee buyer.
The Claim
The Chill Factory says that it can freeze just about any drink that you can think of to put in it, including chocolate milk. They say that the reason it works so well is because of the “polar chambers” that are inside the cup. It’s supposed to use a special material that gets the liquid super cold to the point of slushing without making it so it freezes. This keeps it at just the right temperature so that you can drink it, get the notorious brain freeze, and it won’t go solid.
The Hype
The hype comes from the ease of use being displayed here. One of their top competitors, Slushy Magic, has to be shaken a lot in order to make it slush. This shows people simply squeezing the cup a few times and it making a slushy.
The Cost
The Chill Factory is sold at a price of $15 plus $9 shipping for a total of $24 per cup. That’s a hefty price no matter how you cut it. UK residents are able to get it a bit cheaper, as it’s sold for around $20 and includes free shipping.
The Commitment
If successful this will remove your need from having to buy slushies from places like 7-11 or other gas stations or convenience stores. It would also free you from the small choice of flavors offered at places like these and open things up so that you can choose whatever beverage you’d like.
Evaluation
Nothing causes more online debate than whether or not an at-home slushy maker works or not. There are always those on either side of the debate, some saying that it works, and others saying it’s a dud. But one thing about The Chill Factory that we’ve noticed is that a larger majority of actual users are saying that it works, as long as you follow the directions to the letter. Often with a product like this that simplifies the way it works in the promo spot people will think that they just have to pour in the drink, squeeze it a bit, and just like magic it will make a slushy. But the included directions tell a different story. There are specific tips included to make sure that the results come out right.
Tips and Tricks
First, you’ll want to make sure that you freeze the cup itself completely. For best results make sure that it has been placed in the freezer overnight, preferably in the back where the fan is to make sure it’s getting blasted by plenty of cold. You’ll also want to make sure that the drink you’re going to add to it is properly cold. You wouldn’t want to use a soda that is sitting at room temperature. They also say that after you add your beverage to the cup you can place it back in the freezer for 5 minutes to make sure that it’s all thoroughly at the point of near freezing.

This is a good addition to the home of any family that loves slushed drinks, but doesn’t currently have a good way to make them at home. The cost is a bit high, but you can make it up with repeated use. Just be sure not to put this in the dishwasher, it needs to be washed by hand. It’s best to wash it out as soon as you’re done, especially if it’s a sugary drink like a soda slushy, so that it doesn’t get all sticky and harder to wash.

This product does not work, simple.
I'm returning mine, would be an excellent idea if it did work.
Its may be dependent on the freezer you have, but there wasn't any ice when I tried it.

I have one of these as I'm addicted to slushy drinks. First time I used it, it didn't work and was basically rubbish.
Then I tried again but this time:
1 Let it freeze thoroughly (NB we'd actually bought a new fridge freezer between the first and second uses and I think that made a difference) Don't pay much attention to the time it says because that will depend on the power of your freezer. Just don't try to use it unless the sides "crunch" if you press the cup when you take it out of the freezer.
2 Make sure the drink is really COLD. Like, just out of the fridge cold, not room temp as explained in this article.
3 Whatever drink needs to be quite sweet. Not sure of the science on this but the sugar seems to affect the texture of the liquid so it "slushes" better.
Unless your product really is faulty, I pretty much guarantee that it hasn't worked because of one or more of the reasons listed above.
NB: If you can't get it cold quickly enough, I suggest putting some ice cubes in the empty cup as it freezes. You could add juice, leaving the ice cubes in there and put it back in the freezer but it just turns into solid ice, which kind of defeats the object.
You could also put the cup, with just the drink in it, and give it another few minutes in the freezer, as suggested in the article.
If none of this works then, yep, you got a dud - try and get your money back but know that, as a general rule, this thing works and will save you a fortune on slushy drinks and icepops as well as providing the comfort of knowing exactly what's in that drink and that it was prepared hygienically (gawd knows how often those machines get cleaned, if at all!)
Piece of absolute crap. Followed instruction to the letter, left in freezer for two days and STILL can't even get any ice crystals to form at all.
This 'item' is a piece of complete garbage - no wonder Spotlight at Browns Plains were practically giving them away.
bought one of these for my daughter for Christmas and have been very disappointed. I took the first one we bought back to the shop as it just didn't freeze even left for 48 hours but have the same result with the second one , the chambers do not freeze at all. rubbish.
This has not worked for us either, so disappointed child and pretty crap Christmas present. The cup just does not freeze. I've tried following the instructions to the letter. I'll try the water suggestion above. So far I wouldn't bother with this, stick some ice in a food processor instead
Does not work for me, disappointed kids. Cup does not freeze, tried 2 different freezers both on coldest setting, left for 48hrs and still does not freeze - never makes a slushy of course since the insert isn't frozen... Contacted customer support via email and no reply. Waste of time and money.

This product really does work for me. I've found that I can put about an inch of water in the outside silicon cup and then place the inside cup in it as usual, and it freezes within 3 hours or less when placed next to the vent in the freezer. That way, I don't have to wait 6 to 8 hours.

This is a really interesting product! Just the fact that it can turn anything into a slushy drink is really cool! I am definitely going to invest in it, as my nieces and nephews love coming over and have treats with me, and now I can add slushies onto the menu for them. Instead of soda, though, I wonder if juices can be used. I do not typically drink soda and would prefer to give the kids a healthier drink as well that is less sugary and better for them but still has the consistency they love, especially in the summer.
Yea juices and fizzy drinks work the best but even water works
