You can find the answer to many of your questions in their forums, which are heavily moderated by admins so it’s not just the blind leading the blind. They also have a series of support videos, that walk you through several of the most common things that you’d want to do with your theme, so you can look over the shoulder of the actual developers as they explain in plain English how to maximize the features that come with each theme.
