Customer Reviews

Handy Stitch did not receive very good customer reviews on Amazon.com. Customers rated this product 2.6 stars out of 5 stars.

Customers made the following statements regarding Handy Stitch:

“It is VERY hard to get the thread through the needle even with reading glasses on. That’s the main problem”

“Received this item and it must be a lemon because it doesn’t work. While the threaded needle goes up and down there’s no other thread to make the stitch. I watched a good few you tube videos about threading it and using it and I did everything right but it just didn’t sew and stitches.”

“I was so excited to receive my “little sewing machine” until I started using it or should I say trying to use it. It was terrible. Very hard to thread and worst of all IT DIDN’T work. It ran for a few stiches and then would ball up on the underside of the fabric with a HUGE knot of thread. Save your money to protct your sanity. Aaaarrrgggg!!!”

“I thought that this product would be good to use to stitch things easily and quickly. It’s probably the worst thing that I bought last year. I don’t know if it was just my unit that sucked but it crapped out on me after the second use. The first time I used it I got so frustrated because it wasn’t working right that I said I’ll just do it tomorrow. The second time I used it, it started to fall apart. I do not think this is worth the money and if I could give it negative stars I would!”

Recommendation

The concept of the Handy Stitch handheld cordless portable sewing machine is ideal. However, unfortunately, according to the majority of customers that

have purchased and used this product it does not live up to its perceived capabilities. The price point may be a give away to it’s operating potential. There are several other handheld cordless sewing machines on the market that may be worth looking into. We find it is always important to read reviews prior to making purchases on products you are unsure of. Some of the other handheld sewing machines we have identified are:

  • RoyalSell Handheld Sewing Machine
  • MSDADA Portable Mini Handheld Sewing Machine
  • Singer Stitch Sew Quick
  • Mini Cordless Handheld Electric Sewing machine
  • Unilive Handy Electric Tailor Stitch

Or you may want to check out the Amado portable sewing machine as another option.

Keep in mind that these small compact handheld sewing machines are not meant to perform as larger full-sized sewing machines do. They can be used when you are in a pinch for emergency repairs. A lot of times it comes down to learning how to use a handheld machine properly.

  • If a single stitch gets pulled the entire line of stitching just gets pulled right out. I do not understand how they could think this would actually replace anything! My poor at best hand stitching holds up better.

  • Hello folks I have been given a "handy stitch" never used still in the box. Maybe the reason it was never used is that it has no needles: where can I get needles???????? I have searched ebay and the like, lots of tutorials but nothing about what needles you need or where you can get them. Any help would be gratefully received

  • It sucks! Frustrating! Waste time and money. Did not even manage to stitch 10 stitches before it broke. It stopped catching the bottom thread. I might have it repaired and give it another go.

  • it is a deception as it cannot be compared to a conventional sewing machine. i bought it with great expectation thinking that i will be able to sew some torn clothes but trust me it kept making nice and yet will sow nothing. i think the manufacturers would have to re look at it again since majority are disappointed.

  • After taking off the test quality patch that came with the machine, I wound a #69 thread to match the repair job I needed it for. It did not work. After trying different threads and finally using the original thread that came with it, it still would not stitch. Taking it apart, I saw that the thread hook that grabs the thread from the needle was missing the thread. Reassembling the machine, I brought the needle down by about 1/16". It worked beautifully on a suitcase repair. My $6,000 professional stitchers were unable to do the task since the position was awkward. I sealed the end of the chain stitch with super glue to keep it from unraveling.

Use a drill to wind the bobbin.

  • I sewed many things with my handy stitch only to find that finally the lower thread ran out & u can not re-thread it. What kind of !#%* is that. So what...you are just suppose to throw it away now??? That seems like a waste and why bother to buy it in the furst place?

  • NOT SO HANDY STITCH
After 2 hours pissing around with this shite i threw it through the open window on the 12th floor of my flats.
Better than watching x factor tho

  • I have never tried to use my Handi Stitch in place of my sewing machine, or as a substitute for hand stitching even. I have several, and use them in my child care for craft projects. The kids LOVE doing little projects like napkins, scarves, puppets etc. My daughter uses hers for quick fixes. Keeps it in her car. I enjoy mine, and would recommend it for fun projects & light fix its .... but probably not as a handy substitute for my sewing machine.

  • Great, firm, even stitches. Easy to use. It does a great job. Of course, the biggest benefit is its portability. Perfect if you are taking a trip--you will be prepared for any type of wardrobe malfunction. It is great for multi tasking--I also keep it in my sewing tote basket so that it is there for my mending and portable sewing projects--watching TV, waiting at the doctor's office--no wasting time, I feel very productive now..
