Does Terro Liquid Ant Bait Really Work?

0/5 - (5 votes)

As soon as the warm weather hits it seems as though nature comes alive. So does its critters like the ants, which seem to prefer invading your indoor space. So will Terro Liquid Ant Bait come to the rescue?

Overview

As you have guessed by the name, Terro Liquid Ant Bait is a product used to get rid of the ants. While these insects are not of much concern when they remain outdoors, they can become a real problem when inside. Also some ants can be very destructive, like carpenter ants, for example. Terro is a collection of 6 ant bait stations designed to draw the ants to them. Here the ants feast on the food that is going to eventually destroy them, but not instantly. The ants consuming the poison in the ant trap will take it back to their colony where the real damage is done.

The Claim

The company claims that Terro Liquid Ant Bait will kill the worker ants within two to three days. They state that the traps are designed so they won’t dry out, so the poisonous food is readily available for the ants day or night. They claim the product is effective for all types of household ants.

The Hype

The fact that you don’t have to mess around mixing poisonous formulas is one area the hype focuses on. Then you don’t have to worry about spreading messy liquids or powders around, or have to worry about other animals or kids getting into these types of substances. Although you do have to keep the Terro Liquid Ant Bait away from them too. It is easy to use and effective and that’s exactly what those who are fighting an ant problem want.

The Cost

If you purchase the Terro Liquid Ant Bait at Amazon you can expect to pay $5.67. This purchase is comprised of 6 separate pre-filled ant traps.

The Commitment

The Terro Liquid Ant Bait works either outside or inside. You want to put it as close to the area where you are seeing the ants, but out of the reach of animals and children. Also the next commitment you are going to have to make is to be patient. While you may want to see the ants shrivel up and die right in front of you, so you know the product is working, this isn’t going to happen. This is a slow acting product with a purpose.

Evaluation

While some people may not like the fact they have to put up with the ant problem for a few days while the product does its work, it makes sense. There is no point in just getting rid of the ones that you see, because there are a whole lot more from where they came from. You want the ants visiting the trap to pick up the food, and take it back to wipe out the whole colony. Not only that, the ants carrying the food back are going to send out messages to other ants along the way as to where they can find this food as well. So, you can expect to see a lot more ants marching up to the Terro Liquid Ant Baits, much to your horror at the moment. Stick with it though, and it shouldn’t be long before your see the bait traps are vacant, as the ants are no more.  If you want to learn more about ants, Terro has a informative fact page on their website.

Final Terro Liquid Ant Bait Review

We are going to give this product a thumbs up. This is most based on the fact that it

has become a number one best seller on Amazon, which is no easy task. Secondly it has received a 4.5 star rating out of 2,355 reviews. That’s pretty impressive when you consider there are so many similar products on the market today.

Our Recommendation

Nobody likes to kill nature’s critters or insects, even the ants. At the same time you cannot allow them to invade your home and property either. They are not the only problem that can occur. There are a lot of people who have problems with moles. These guys can make your lawn look disastrous with their hole digging. One product that has been introduced without having to bring an end to these varmint’s lives is the Riddex Sonic Mole Repeller. So if you are having this type of animal problem then check it out.

What do you think? Does Terro Liquid Ant Bait work or not?

  • They invaded my bathroom and kitchen. I threw out all my food and placed some in my fridge and freezer. I shudder to think that I may have eaten pharaoh infested nests from my macaroni suppers before I discovered them. Terro has not helped. They go to it but then I see a few walking around and foraging or god knows what they are doing. After a month of placing drops of terro all over my kitchen counter and seeing them eat, they were gone. BUT they miraculously appeared 3 days later from behind my fridge, and crawling on my wall. Same thing in the bathroom, they are coming from two walls and going on my counter and spotted some on top of my medicine cabinet. They keep eating the bait. But what on earth is taking so long to get rid of these bastards? What are they looking for when I see them walking around? Not sure why I can't find any studies on these ants' behaviours around bait.
Everywhere I read people saying they got rid of their ants in 1 to 2 days with Terro. I find that really hard to believe. Maybe they had a different type of ant.Or maybe it works for single dwelling homes but what about condos, townhouses and apartment buildings?
So I will not buy any ant sprays because I read that it will make things worse. I got that diatomaceous earth so it might kill my lungs and my pets lungs from this. Not sure if it will work or if the ants will see that as a repellent spray.

I attempted to make my own bait out of various recipes and nothing worked - boric acid, borax, icing sugar, brown sugar, peanut butter, baking soda. It might be that those homemade baits work on other types of ants.
Pharaoh ants are something special and they are fast, little annoying jerks. I resist the temptation to squash their tiny bodies with some toilet paper and even if I do, they are so hardy that it takes a few pressings to knock them dead.

Every pest site I go to they say leave it to the professionals. Well what do they do that I can't do? Is there a secret? Do they know where they are just by looking at my kitchen and bathroom?

Where can I get this Advion gel in Canada?

  • Well, so far it’s been over a week and I have now used several traps in one space because it seems like it’s actually attracting ants for miles around… When it stopped raining there were less ants, but now there’s an enormous amount of ants again… I think it’s worse than when it started. I certainly have not seen an entire colony disappear or anything like that.

  • We have employed Terro Ant Baits once or twice a year for quite awhile and always had perfect results with the problem being solved in 2 or 3 days. I highly recommend this inexpensive and quite clean and simple solution to ant problems.

  • We've been dealing with ants since February and would occasionally still see groups, since then I've been trying to get an understanding of where exactly they're coming from, it appears they've nested under the toilet in one of our bathrooms and elsewhere I can't quite really discover. In addition to consulting an exterminator to help with this issue, I finally got my hands on some liquid bait and it attracted their attention over the span of 2-3+ hours! Many more ants ( more than I thought there were ) are taking their piece of it compared to the Raid baits my roommate had in stock when ants were swarming her cat's food, they ignored it, basically. The only question is some of them don't appear to be moving -- did they drown within the bait or they just taking as much as they can before bringing it to the colony? Should I do anything about that or just leave it as the ants will take the dead ones to the colony and eat them, along with the digested bait? I'm hoping to add to this with the outdoor baits in hopes this will further reduce their numbers if not slow them down.

  • I have used this product inside my apartment & outside as well. It works amazingly well! I would recommend this to anyone with an ant problem.

  • I love this stuff...been having carpenter ant problems for more than 30 years...started using terro this year and voila...ants gone...just need to replace the terro every 3- 4 months...I did find however, the carpenter ants were smart and would nto actually go inside the terro containers so I poured the liquuid on a jar lid and set that out...they all went for that....

  • Argentine ants were feasting from my cats' bowl. I was beside myself with uncontrollable fury. I went to Home Depot and bought one box of Terro Liquid Ant Baits. I followed the trail of ants from the cat bowl to a crack in the woodwork in a corner of the family room. There I deployed all six bait stations. The ants' attention shifted to the bait stations almost immediately. They were all over them, coming and going like gang busters.

I observed their behavior for two days, but toward the end of the second day I observed a noticeable diminishing in the number of ants. The ones that were still working seemed to be staggering and walking slowly. At the end of the day, there were no ants.

However, less than a week later a resurgence of ants was visiting the bait stations, vigorously entering and exiting the stations. Were these ants the hatchlings from eggs of the colony that had just been destroyed? Wherever their origin, the bait stations were vacant within twenty-four hours. A week later ants again appeared at the bait stations and disappeared within another twenty-four hours, presumably having been annihilated.

This stuff works with a vengeance! Find the entrance point in your house and deploy the bait stations. Next, do nothing but wait. I'm getting some back-up baits and will look into setting up annihilation stations outside. But beware. Killing is addictive, and once you taste the delirious joy of slaughtering entire colonies, you'll want to do nothing but visit death upon the little six-legged invaders that invited themselves into your domicile.

  • I have been using Terro ant bait for over a year 2 at a time in the same place in my bathroom. Over a year with no apparent effect

  • This bait is great! I put it out as soon as I start to see the pharaoh ants and less than 2 days later I see absolutely no ants. I put the bait in an out of the way place and leave it throughout the season. I have recommended this bait to others and they have reported great results also.

  • So far been a week not working as well as described or claimed by terro and other users. Initially diminished, but consistant daily amount of ants around traps. Sorry.

    • Purchase bait traps last August 2018 and opened the box April 2019 and the liquid was brown not clear needless to say the liquid was ineffective. I called the company and they would not offer a replacement of refund because I didn’t have the receipt , i even offers to return the product and the rude customer service representative said he didn’t know if I may have stole them from the store. A large company like this should have better customer service representatives. Will not purchase this item again.
