My Lavender Garden promises that you’ll be able to relax in your own sea of fresh lavender, surrounded by the sights and wonderful smells. While the benefits of lavender flowers are clear, what’s unclear is whether or not this can provide the results you’re after.
Overview
Lavender is coveted by many gardeners because of its lovely fragrance and beautiful purple hue. But growing it where and when you want it can be a bit tricky at times. Perhaps you thought it would be easy because you’ve seen it growing in the wild on its own. But conditions do have to be right if you want it to grow to its most impressive proportions.
The Claim
My Lavender Garden says that it comes with everything you’ll need in order to successfully grow your own lavender flowers in your garden and for inside the home. They go on about how great lavender smells, and that the aroma is proven to help you relax and feel calm.
They point out that lavender is a perennial, blooming again year after year each spring, so you can plant them once and enjoy them over the long term. They also say that during the winter season you can relocate your lavender indoors and add them to floral arrangements so that you can benefit from them all year round. They say that no matter whether your lawn is sun covered, or mostly shaded the lavender will thrive. They say that regardless if you suffer from frigid winters and steamy summers the lavender is resilient and will have no trouble with it.
The Cost
They say you can get a total of 6 lavender plants for $10, with $12 shipping for a total of $22. They say that the plants are guaranteed to grow or else you can return them for a refund of the purchase price. In this case the purchase price is less than the cost of shipping, so you’ll only get the $10 back, and it’s unclear what you’re supposed to return, if you’re supposed to go and dig the seeds up out of the ground and return those, or if they just want the empty packet. Either way it will cost you to return whatever it is they ask for.
The Commitment
It should be easy enough to keep your lavender plants going once they take root and start to flourish. It’s a pretty tough plant, but you want to be sure to give it the best conditions possible so that you get the biggest blooms from it. This means that rather than set it and forget it, you should tend to it at least on a weekly basis, if not more. If gardening is your passion you should give it just as much attention as your other plants and flowers, watering it as needed, and tending to any weeds that might pop up.
Evaluation
While they make it seem like anyone can easily grow their own lavender garden, the reality is that some climates are better for lavender to grow than others. My Lavender Garden needs to convince buyers that there is a special seed that they’ll receive, or special instructions on how to grow them properly in any region of the country, and they don’t do this, instead focusing on the benefits of lavender. But if they want to make a sale they have to give some idea of what makes their kit better than what you can find locally. They fail to do this.
Final My Lavender Garden Review
We’re giving My Lavender Garden our Risky Try rating, as it doesn’t successfully make its case that you’ll get enough lavender from it to live up to the depiction on the TV promo. Showing row after row of amazing lavender, and fields covered with it sets the bar pretty high, and there are some climates across the country where lavender is going to have a tough time growing, and will only bloom for a short time. Since the guarantee is rendered useless due to the pricing structure, you’re taking on nearly all the risk.
Also, it’s competing against the advice and supplies you can get from a gardening shop near you, and in that respect it has to provide better results than you could get from growing them the old fashioned way. We’re not so sure it can do this, and at the price they’re asking you likely have a better shot with more conventional methods.
