Cutting Edge Grass Seed says it can get your lawn looking great, even if conditions aren’t exactly ideal for growing grass.
Overview
It can be hard finding that perfect medium for grass growth. It needs to have the right conditions just to grow in the first place, and but then if it’s growing too much it’s going to be a constant hassle of mowing, edging, and weed whacking. This can mean lots of work for you, or lots of expense paying a lawn care company.
The Claim
The makers of Cutting Edge Grass Seed says that the grass seed they use grows roots up to 48 inches long. Because of this they say you won’t have to water it as much, won’t have to fertilize it as much, and it won’t get too tall the way ordinary grass does. They say the reason for this is that the roots grow deep into the ground so it can survive on less water. They also say it grows to a “dwarf height” so it’s not just going to keep growing and growing until it is knee high or taller.
By not having to mow or water this grass as much, this can ironically be thought of as a “green” product because it means you’ll end up using fewer resources. It also means that it will be saving you money and time from not having to mow it yourself, or not having to pay someone to mow it. It should also mean a lower water bill if you find that you have to mow your lawn constantly just to encourage it to grow. It might also mean that you’ll spend less by not having to pay for fertilizer just to get your lawn to grow if it’s been showing sluggish growth.
They say that their seed can work where other grasses won’t grow, like shady spots that don’t get enough sun, or sections of the yard that show patches from where you pet urinates. They also say that it is resistant to many problems that can torment a yard, including bugs, weeds, and diseases that other grasses might succumb to. To top it all off they say that in just one week you’ll start to see visible results, and they guarantee it.
The Hype
We all want our lawn to look as great as it can, and the thought of the perfect lawn is pretty powerful. Seeing results in just a week would make most people ecstatic.
The Cost
This is sold in BOGO fashion with the total price coming to $36. It breaks down as $20 for the first bag, $8 shipping on that first bag, and another $8 shipping on the second bag. To compare that price to the competition, you’re looking at a 3 pound bag of Scotts Turf Builder in the Kentucky Bluegrass version for $18. That means for have the price you can get 50% more product, and it gets pretty decent reviews. So for this seed to get a favorable review it’s going to have to prove that it’s worth the added cost.
The Commitment
Your commitment, or lack thereof, is a huge selling point for this seed. They sell you on the idea of not having to water it, mow it, or fertilize it as much as you currently do. That paints a picture of almost a hands off approach to your yard that is very appealing.
Evaluation
Cutting Edge Grass Seed is listed with the Organic Materials Review Institute because their seeds have an organic coating. They are used by commercial properties to fill in large areas of grass and reduce the cost of maintenance and upkeep. This isn’t some fly by night grass operation that is new to the scene and offering an inferior product, they way we often see with products sold on TV. They seem to be reaching out to the consumer market to broaden their base of customers, and this appears to be a way to get the same caliber grass used by big companies, but for use on your own residential lawn.
Final Cutting Edge Grass Seed Review
All signs point to this being a legit offer from a real company that is using the successful TV Product sales channel to sell their seed to the general public. They specifically state that there are places where this should work well, and places where it’s not going to work out so well. If you live in the middle to northern part of the United States it should work out well because it will have the proper mix of rain and sun and it will be able to survive the cold of the winter and the heat of the summers.
Our Recommendation
If you live in the right zone, this would be a recommended seed to try. While the price may be higher, the features of the seed seem to justify it, and in the end this will pay dividends in reduced time and money trying to keep up with the grass.

There is no such thing as commercial seed that is not organic. Only the coatings put on them, if any, are non-organic. Organic or not organic depends on how it is grown and you have control over that. If you are wondering if they are genetically modified, almost certainly they are.
With recent construction going on in my backyard, entire patches of grass have been ripped up and left barren. I hate the way it looks, and my attempts at putting down grass seeds have been fruitless. Maybe the birds get to the seeds too quickly for them to actually take root. Anyway, I will be trying out this product because I live in an area where they claim that the conditions should be right for getting this item to work effectively and quickly. I cannot wait to have my lush green lawn back so I can invite people over again!
This is a product I’m interested in because we have patches of space where grass doesn’t grow around our house. I think it’s because of the lack of sun in those areas, but not sure exactly what the problem is. This grass seed would seem to help overcome whatever it is that’s the problem, being that it’s resilient against severely common grass killers like low sun or pet urine. However, one question I have is what exactly is meant by an organic coating on the seeds, and also, whether or not the seeds themselves are organic or not (and does it actually matter if they are or aren’t? For the environment maybe?)
