The EVOderma Hair Removal system features its flagship product, the LUMI. This is designed to be an at-home Intense Pulsed Light system that you can use to safely and relatively painlessly remove unwanted hair from certain areas of your body. So can something like this really help you avoid getting a professional treatment from a salon? We size this up and also weigh it against competing products out there to see if it is something you should go with or not.
Overview
Because of our evolutionary origins, a large percentage of our body is covered in some form of hair. Aside from the bottoms of the feet and the palms of the hands there’s hair ranging from peach fuzz, to thick manes. The only problem is that for some of these spots we prefer to have them hairless, either through the confines of what society feels is appropriate, or just out of our own personal distaste for being so hairy.
The Claim
EVOderma Hair Removal claims that it sends flashes of light that pass through your hair follicle. The light works to disable the growth cycle of the hair so that it should painless fall out. They say that it can detect the type of skin, and it only sends flashes on areas that can handle it.
The Hype
This basically brings a salon caliber treatment to your home, so there will be some hype surrounding it as far as the sort of cost savings you’ll receive from it long term. Also, people wonder if this can actually provide top-quality results since it uses an advanced technology.
The Cost
The EVOderma Hair Removal system is $690. When you compare this to getting a professional session done in a salon, it’s more expensive but you have to realize that you have to keep going back to the salon for more more treatments to get the results you want. At the end of all the treatments it can get up to thousands of dollars to remove large sections of hair, like back hair or leg hair. When you get something that you can use at home, you can use it as many times as you want so you don’t have to get roped into multiple treatments, and pay again each time.
The Commitment
Aside from the price, you also have to commit to setting aside the time to learn how to use it properly, and also to use it. It’s not the fastest way to remove your hair, but it does make a convenient because you can give yourself your own treatment in your own home, which will appeal to many people.
Evaluation
EVOderma Hair Removal gets pretty solid reviews from users, but given its price tag it had better please its customers or it will be pretty tough to stay in business. People aren’t going to stand for anything less than stellar results when they put that sort of money into it.
If you’re going to invest in a product like this, you need to also take the time to know how to use it, and follow the directions to the letter. In this case they want you to have clean and shaved the areas that you will be treating. They also advise against using it on areas like the face, the head, and the neck.
What to Expect
This is not exactly a painless process, they say that after each flash it gives you, you might feel a sensation of tingling and warm, especially when you’re going over areas that are more sensitive than others. Basically, it you can expect to get rid of your hair painlessly, unless you go with a depilatory cream, or shave without nicking yourself. Some people might be expecting this to be painless since it just uses flashes of light, but it’s got to penetrate into your hair so it has to be somewhat powerful.
Final EVOderma Hair Removal Review
The EVOderma Hair Removal is too pricey, even if it does work. It seems to be set up so that you are required to buy a bunch of accessories for it, such as special lotions and creams to help your skin recover after a session, and custom eyewear to protect your eyes from the flashes of light. All of these come with their own exaggerated prices, such as $95 for the lotion, and $100 for the glasses.
And the lamp will eventually burn out, so you’ll have to buy a replacement bulb for it running you either $85 for one or $165 for two. So it’s not just the high initial costs, but it’s the high maintenance costs involved with owning this and using it regularly. When it is all said and done, you could potentially be better off getting it professionally done at salon, you could buy dozens of other products that are claiming to remove your unwanted hair for you.
Our Recommendation
For a considerable amount less, you can get one of the best reviewed hair removal systems out there, the Silk’n SensEpil. This makes similar claims as the LUMI model, but clocks in at $400, putting it in range for more of us. The reviews for it are very favorable, especially considering that it is hard to find hair removal products that people can agree on. This is because you not only have to adjust for the different skin types out there, but also for the different hair types. Not all hair is created equally, so you get people with thick hair, people with thin hair, and also every imaginable skin type.
I think I’m going to pass on this one and maybe buy the recommended one. It will not replace my salon visits because I actually enjoy going there and get pampered time to time, but it could come in handy when I feel lazy or something. But again, this one’s way too expensive and I’m going to look into the $400 machine.
