Does Toppik really work?If you’re looking for a simple way to cover up your hair loss, Toppik might be just the thing for you. While it doesn’t do much to treat the cause of the problem, it appears to provide a cosmetic treatment that covers up the appearance of having thinning hair. It makes sense to get the look you want while you use other products to get your hair healthy, but does Toppik do the trick, and will you get back to your former looks with it?

There are two different ways you can treat your hair loss. The first is to try and stop the loss and reverse it, growing more hair in its place. This can be a long and drawn out process, with several weeks and months passing before any results are seen, and up to a year to start seeing regrowth. In the meantime you can use the other way, which is to treat how your hair looks.

You may remember the first product that came out to the mainstream market by Ron Popeil of infomercial fame. He had a sprayable product called Great Looking Hair that entailed spray painting your bald spot until it looked natural. It’s the same kind of concept being used here by the makers of Toppik.

The Claim
The claim for Toppik is plain and simple: A full head of hair in 30 seconds. They also say that their product completely reverses the appearance of hair loss and thinning hair. They say it uses Keratin fibers that adhere to the hair with an electrostatic charge. The result is that it gives you the look of having a thick, full head of hair. They also state that it takes just seconds to work, and that other people won’t be able to tell that you’re using it, even when it’s windy, rainy, or when you’re sweating.

The Hype
If you watch the official video on their website, it’s almost like watching a magician turn a nearly bald guy into a guy with a full head of hair. It’s also been featured on Good Morning America and has gotten quite the buzz because it can be used by both men and women.

It’s hard to argue with these visuals:

What It Is and What It Isn’t
Toppik is not a cure for thinning hair, nor does it treat your actual problem in any way. This is purely a cosmetic fix, for appearances only. In fact, it could end up contributing to your problem, as it acts to smother your scalp, prevent it from breathing, and potentially build up on your scalp.

You will continue to lose your hair, or have it thin out even more by using this product. It can be used in conjunction with other hair loss treatments that are designed to block your DHT, or cleanse your scalp, or products with minoxidil so you can see some regrowth as well. This would make it so your hair looks good during the process of growing it back, or at least stopping it from falling out.

It comes in a shaker bottle, and you simple dust it onto your head in the areas that need it, until you reach the desired look. After applying it you can lightly comb your hair into the style that you like and be on your way.

The Cost
Toppik has its core product, as well as a bunch of accessories that go with it. Therefore, the cost of using it will vary depending on how many other products you order with it. You can get started with the original product for just $22 which gets you a regular sized bottle, good for 30 days of use.

The Commitment
When you start using Toppik you’d better be prepared to use it for the long term. The only reason to use it is to pull off the appearance of having a full head of hair. Once you start wearing it to work and all of your friends see you with it, you won’t want to revert back to your old hairless ways, or risk the embarrassment of having everyone know the truth. It makes sense to use additional products to treat the cause of your hair loss so that you can ween yourself off of Toppik as your hair start to stabilize and regrow.

What People are Saying
It’s not too hard to fake reviews at certain sites, and this product seems to have an unusually high number of boisterous reviews, leading some to question their validity. It’s true that a product of this nature is bound to have its share of negative reviews, either from people that didn’t feel it lived up to their expectations, or those that didn’t use it correctly. Also, there would be reviews from people that couldn’t find the right shade to match their hair color properly enough to pull off the hoax.

Final Toppik Review

Toppik can be a good way to get your looks back, but should be used in conjunction with other hair loss products so that you get the best of both worlds. It is not a solution to hair loss per se, but a solution to how your hair looks when it’s thin or balding. The only problem you’ll run into is the toupe effect of having thinning hair one day, and a full head of hair the next. This could draw more attention to your hair than you’re probably currently getting.

Our Recommendation
Although the product seems to work at covering up the appearance of thinning or balding hair, we can’t recommend getting involved with it because it’s not a solution. Unless you plan on using it e
