One of the most frustrating situations is when you are just about to put on a piece of your clothing, and you suddenly discover it is missing a button. Now although you are in a mad rush to get out the door, you have a problem to solve. Maybe the 5 Second Button is going to save the day.
Overview
The 5 Second Button is a nifty hand held device that allows you to attach a button to most types of garments made of many different materials, in a matter of seconds. You simply load the fastener, put the button on it, then put the gadget on the garment where you want the button to be attached. It attaches the button with no thread. It places a small fastener to the garment for the button to adhere to. This gadget is light weight, easy to use, and small enough to carry in your purse so you are ready for any button emergency.
The Claim
The Company claims that the 5 Second Button is safe for most fabrics and super easy to use. They are claiming that the button won’t unravel in the washer or dryer because there is no thread being used.
The Hype
Not having to thread a needle and hunt for the right colored thread is the hype that is being used for this sewing gadget. This is a big plus, because when somebody goes to put something on and the button is missing, they just don’t have time to sew it on. So it usually means having to find something else to wear. Or worse still, when they are wearing a garment and the button pops off they have to resort to using a safety pin which looks hideous.
The Cost
You can expect to pay $10.95 plus $4.95 shipping. If you include a extra $4.95 then you will get a second 5 Second Button device free. In your order (incl.the 2nd offer) you will get 2 gadgets,60 buttons (white, black & clear) and 60 fasteners.
The Commitment
If you buy the 5 Second Button device you want to be sure that you are going to be able to order the fastener refills.
Evaluation
Taking the 5 Second Button at face value based on the promo material it seems like something that every household should have at least one of. Looking into it further means looking at similar devices that may be available. That leads us to the Avery Dennison, the Original Buttoneer Fastener. Unfortunately this particular model does not appear to have lived up to its promises. The feed back indicates only about a 2 1/2 star rating, but the same can be said for many of the other makes and models that promise to deliver a quick and easy button fastener system.
Final 5 Second Button Review
We are going to give the 5 Second Button a Try/Buy, giving the benefit of the doubt that perhaps it is a new and improved offering of a gadget that overall doesn’t seem to have had much success in the past. In general the complaints about some of the other types of button fasteners is they simply did not work or the device broke.
Our Recommendation
If you are willing to spend about $15. to try and experiment with something that you could find useful, then go ahead. If you don’t feel that you would put it to enough use to justify the risk of maybe losing $15. then don’t take the chance. At the same time it wouldn’t be fair to brand the 5 Second Button with the same brush as to the negative aspects raised about all the other similar gadgets. The decision to buy this gadget is really going to come down to weighing out the pros and cons and whether you want to risk the dollars. There really are some decent sewing devices on the market, aside from those focusing on button replacement. A good example of this is the Handy Stitch. If you have some average sewing needs, then you may want to check it out.
