If you see the infomercial for just a few seconds, you’re going to want to at least try a Slap Chop. It makes it look so easy to chop up all sorts of food, and it will have you believing that you’re finally going to start eating better, and introducing new foods into your diet that you wouldn’t otherwise eat. But can it possibly work the way it looks like it does?
Overview
Chopping up veggies and all other sorts of foods can be quite tedious if you use an ordinary knife. It’s perhaps the least glamorous part of cooking, but must be done in order to prepare foods for further cooking, or for making ready-to-eat salads or fresh vegetables.
The Claim
Slap Chop says that you can use it on a cutting board, or inside a cup, either way you’re going to be able to slice, dice, and chop up a variety of foods just by slapping the handle.
The Hype
The hype comes from the commercial, they make it look way too fun and easy. The spokesperson is the same guy from the ShamWow product, and he’s pretty good at what he does. He hypes up the Slap Chop and puts you into a feverish buying state. Come to find out that all the hype is actually justified, and this is a product you can be happy to spend money on.
The Cost
You can pick up a Slap Chop from Amazon for less than $20 and it comes with the free cheese grater called Graty. Graty works alright, but is nothing to write home about. You can even get it shipped free if you add another $5 to your order.
The Commitment
Slap Chop is designed to save you time in the condition, and to save you from the fatigue of chopping up foods by hand with a knife. When used properly it actually requires less commitment than the methods you’re currently using in the kitchen, and can thus be seen as a product that is easy to stick with.
If you currently don’t do a lot of your own cooking, or you don’t purchase many fresh fruits and vegetables, you’d have to commit to buying these types of foods. Slap Chop only really works on natural, whole foods, and there aren’t many uses for it on processed foods. So this could be a good way to commit to adding more healthy options for you and your family.
Evaluation
Slap Chop comes ready to rock. Just take it out of the box give it a quick rinse off, and start using it just like you saw in the commercial. Some of the best things that it’s good for are green pepper, garlic, and nuts.
If you’ve ever tried chopping nuts you know what a pain it can be. They are hard to keep in place, and the little bits go all over the place. If you use the container cup that’s included you can keep everything all in one place, and chop up the nuts as fine as you’d like them. Some people don’t like big chunks of nuts, but it’s so hard to chop them up finely, but with Slap Chop you can get them to the consistency that you want.
It’s nice that they’ve made it so it spreads open for easy cleaning. Many food gadgets get food and other gunk caught in their insides, and it makes it hard to clean which makes it unsanitary. With a few motions the whole Slap Chop device comes apart which lets you give it a thorough cleaning so it will be ready for next time.
Does Slap Chop Really Work?
Yes, Slap Chop really does work. Because of its criss cross blade it only takes a few slaps to get it to chop up the food properly. It reduces the amount of time and repetitive motions used to chop food the traditional way with a knife. You really can just chop and and quickly move on to your next task in the kitchen.
Our Recommendation
Grab a Slap Chop right away! It works as advertised and adds fun to your cooking, while taking away some of the pain and suffering of chopping up annoying vegetables like peppers,
The slap chop itself is amazing! I have had mine for quite a few years now. But what I do not like about it is that you can not buy replacement parts for it if it breaks. The plastic guard that surrounds the blades on mine has now cracked and will not stay in place. I have looked every where online to see about a replacement part and can not find any. So now I am stuck having to spend more money to replace the whole thing. To me that is a rip off! If you are going to sell something that has parts that could break then you need to provide your customers with replacement parts. But I guess that is how they make their money off people.
This is the worse chopper I have ever used. It’s tiny and doesn’t chop. The foods get stuck in the blades. Huge waste of money. With postag, I wasted $18.49!!!!
I hate the infomercial guy too! He was so annoying and made me not want to buy this at all! They should stop hiring him for these things, because I don’t know who likes to watch him. Sorry, off topic. So anyway, I think this is a really good idea! I love to have things cut up for salads and stir fry dinners. The types of foods that you would make with this would be healthier and encourage you to eat vegetables and fruit salads. I am also a little nervous about cutting up things that are difficult to chop, like nuts and things like that. It would be nice to have a product that cuts them easily and safely for you. Now that I know it works well, I would probably buy this, but not from the infomercial!
A friend of mine had purchased this product and then decided to move far away and left it to me. It has collected dust in my kitchen since as I have never bothered to try it, mainly because I couldn’t stand the guy or his commercials and to be honest it looked like the blades were dull. But perhaps I will dust it off and give it a try since everyone seems to think it works well. I am concerned on how well it is to clean the product after a use. Still if it can chop things like nuts without issue, then it is definitely worth a try.
The Slap Chop does work and is it handy to have around. I can do all my vegetables in one spot and have it done in minutes. I purchased mine over a year ago and it is still going strong. I love my Slap Chop. You do have to make sure that the vegetables are cut in chunks so the chopper can cut them up quickly and easily. It is easy to clean and it doesn’t take up any space. I threw my old cutting board away as the Slap Chop does all my cutting and dicing now. If you cook a lot, then this is a great investment.
Really? It works? I am so happy to read this review, as I have been looking for a product that can easily cup up my vegetables and fruits for all of my favorite meals and snacks. I hate cutting them up by hand using a knife because the process is so exhausting and time consuming. I dread it every time. But now i have found a product that actually lives up to its claims, and I’m happy to have found this positive review to help guide my decision.
The first time I saw this commercial, I absolutely hated it! That man, oh my goodness, was annoying and captivating at the same time. I didn’t want to watch it but I couldn’t turn away either. When I finally found a Slap Chop and tried it for the first time I fell in love. I will be the first to admit that when it comes to chopping onions I am (1) the worst and (2) unable to stand the “tears.” The entire product was sturdy enough that it could continuously chop without becoming dull as well as keep everything nice and tidy in the plastic holder.
HAHA I LOVE THE SLAP CHOP!!! No not because it works so well, but because of the commercial. Could the dude on there be any more annoying?
I have a chopper that does essentially the same thing. It collects dust in my kitchen like a lot of other kitchen gadgets that I thought I ‘had to have’.
For me it is so much easier to just get a knife and do the work. The constant sound of the Slap Chop is annoying as well. After all who wants to be cooking and hear whack, whack, whack, all time? NOT ME!
