The Michel Mercier Ultimate Detangling Brush says that it can go through your hair without getting stuck and causing a snag. We’ve looked at a lot of hair detangling brushes and so far have only found a few good ones. So does this one pass the test?
Overview
Trying to get tangles out of your hair, or your child’s hair, can be a painful experience. Finding a solution can be hard, and if you’re not careful you’ll end up going through brush after brush, all with their hyped up claims of no tangles, only to be left at square one with the same tangles and no solution.
The Claim
Michel Mercier, the maker of the Ultimate Detangling Brush, says that it can detangle your hair in seconds, and that it all happens smoothly and painlessly. They also say it uses fewer strokes to get the job done, and comes in three varieties depending on your type of hair so that it is providing a custom job. They further state that using their brush means you’ll get less breakage and less hair loss caused by brushing.
The Hype
The hype is this Michel Mercier that is behind the brush, referred to as an inventor and stylist. Not much can be found on this person other than what is presented at the official website, so it’s a bit odd that there’s no bio on who they are and what they’ve accomplished to be revered so highly and referred to again and again as the remarkable person behind this brush.
The Cost
The Michel Mercier Ultimate Detangling Brush is listed at $15, which wouldn’t be a bad price for a detangler, but they don’t stop there. There’s a $6 shipping charge to get it to your door, and they tack on another brush and another $6 shipping charge to get your order total up to $27. The kicker is that only $15 of your purchase price is refundable in the case of a return. It would also be nice if they let you choose two out of the three hair types in case your hair falls between two types. But they will only send you two exact brushes.
The Commitment
This should help reduce the amount of time spent combing through your hair because it should cause less snags, pulls, yanks, tears, and tears. If it can do that it would be well with the investment, and can make morning nighttime rituals go much more smoothly for everyone involved.
Evaluation
The Michel Mercier No Tangle Brush is supposed to work because it has bristles of varying lengths so that you’re not just forcing all of the bristles through all of your hair all at once. This is used by other detangling brushes. They say that it creates many contact points over a larger surface area which is supposed to make it so there is less pressure on any one part of the hair. From what people are saying this does seem to work in about half the cases.
Final Michel Mercier Ultimate Detangling Brush Review
Michel Mercier Ultimate Detangling Brush gets so many mixed reviews that it is earning our Risky Try rating. At this price point we’d like to see far better numbers as far as the people that say it works, in relation to those that say it’s a flop. When you consider that there are detanglers out there like the Wet Brush that have stellar feedback at an insanely low price with no gimmicks involved in regards to sending you an extra brush just to inflate the total purchase price.
Our Recommendation
It would be nice if they let you buy just one brush for the advertised price of $15, but after tacking on $12 in shipping charges and sending you an extra brush this just doesn’t seem like the best deal you can buy. If you buy direct at Amazon it’s $22 just for one of them, so it’s a better deal to pay the $5 to have a backup when the first one wears out. When you can get a top rated detangling hair brush for $9 you just have to take those odds over 50-50.
I’m late to this thing but I’ve had one of these (the blue one for thick hair) and it’s terrible. It’s no different than any other brush, if anything it’s worse than typical brushes. My hair is thick and somewhat straight, and it’s decently long (goes down to mid back), and it gets matted pretty easily. I’ve been using this brush for almost a year now and it’s nothing special.
i really do like this brush. i got it when it first came out a couple of years ago. i bought it on amazon when i seen the commercials. the total came up to 18 dollars which was ok for me. it came about a month later. i bought the thin hair one but it did not work for my hair. my hair was thin! it pulled my hair and the bristles came off. i recently got it again but in a different hair type and it works amazing!!! i can use it on wet and dry hair and i absolutely love it. i give it a 10/10!!!
I have a bunch of different detangling brushes, but this one is my favorite. Because the bristles are stiffer on the MM brushes, they get all the way down to my scalp (and therefore do a better job detangling—IMHO). Also, this one seems to leave my hair less static-prone than the ones that are similar to the Tangle Teaser.
Do not buy this brush. I spent 15 dollars on it because my daughter has thick long hair and she cries constantly when I brush it. I thought this would help. It DOES NOT WORK! At all it is a giant waist of money. The brushes with wide backs are the best way to go you can get one for like 5 bucks. I’m very disappointed in this product!
this brush is absolute trash the hairs get stuck in there and they won’t come out. they claim it works in the shower too/wet hair but that’s a total scam. the water gets INSIDE the brush and leaks your towel/clothing when you brush afterwards. it works fine on dry hair but hairs get stuck on (i have curly hair) the brush and it’s very irritating to brush it out. do not buy it it doesn’t help you!! buy the wet brush works 100% and it’s really cheap. this brush cost me 15$ at walmart and was a complete waste of money. i’m going to get my money back.
tip: never believe any hairbrush advertisment on tv it’s a scam, stick to your regular brush
Do not order from they official page. Absaloutle apoling Web page. Firstly it would not accept my details kept coming up with error so I left the page and ordered it from els where. 2 days later I find 28 pound taken from my account by the company. Turns out it placed the order for my all though it kept coming up with error. There was no conformation to say my order had been placed and not email what so ever. What not recommend ordering from the website.
I just tried this brush and I absolutely love it. I only brush my hair in the shower because if I brush my hair dry it up up up like Diana Ross in the eighties. this brush cut my shower time and half, and I wasn’t pulling out clumps of hair like my other brush, it was so smooth and so quick I think I might go back and buy another one just in case this one ever breaks. the only thing I recommend for this brush is a better grip handle, for those of us who have a long thick curly, all plastic brushes tend to slip out of our hands.
Does not work as advertised. Threw it out. Waste of money. Any “prong” type brush works the same and much cheaper.
I’ve been a hairdresser for close to 20 years and I can honestly say this is nothing but an overpriced, glorified comb!!! That being said I have a handful of clients who like it (not love) and coincidentally they all have thicker hair that is wavy or curly. My daughter has fine curly hair but she has a lot of it and this “brush” just about sent her through the roof!!! I was disappointed by the lack of quality (cheap plastic, not even good plastic!!) first off and then disappointed by the results!! It took me twice as long to “brush” out her hair, it wasn’t any easier on tangles and it was causing her hair to break. For $20 you’d be better off buying a good quality hair conditioner!!! I wish I could get my money back!!!!
I have this brush and it is a life saver my hair is super thick and I would pull out a lot of hair using my regular brush. When I first got the brush i tried it right a away it didn’t get caught or pulled I LOVE THIS BRUSH.
This brush does not work
I have a lot of fine, long, wavy white girl hair that used to stay knotted up. When I was little I cried everytime someone brushed my hair and only certain people were allowed to brush my hair. I would go all day without getting my hair brushed if someone wasn’t around that could brush my hair and people were scared to brush my hair because of how tangled it would get and how much it hurt me.
Now I’ve learned a lot about my hair and how to minimize the pain. The biggest thing is to condition, condition, condition. I don’t wash my hair everyday. I usually wash it every other day to every 2 days depending on if I have been sweating or if it looks and feels greasy. This keeps the natural oils from being stripped from my hair. When I do wash my hair I wash in warm water, not hot, and leave the shampoo in for a few minutes while I wash up. This is suppose to open up the follicles and the hair to allow the conditioner to penetrate. I don’t know if that’s true or not. Then I leave my conditioner in for about 10 minutes while I shave and rinse with cool water. I have a wide space hard plastic bristled vent brush with the balls on the end of the bristles that I run through my hair after I put the conditioner in. It slides right through. When I get out of the shower I use a towel hair wrap and leave it in for as long as I can. Before I brush it I spray in a thick leave in conditioner. Then I use a cushion brush with hard plastic bristles with the balls on the end to brush through my hair. I start at the bottom and work my way up. In the past I have taken a small bit of regular conditioner and rubbed it in the bottom of my hair. It helps with the tangles and keeps my hair from frizzing out when it dries. Randomly I use a deep treatment conditioner. I really like Aussie’s 3 minute miracle treatment. If I’m going to be using heat on it I use a heat protecting spray and more conditioner to help keep it moisturized. I rarely ever blow dry my hair but I love straightening it. I also change out my shampoos and conditioners every few weeks or so or when I feel like my hair isn’t dry & frizzy beyond the norm. Lastly, a routine hair trim always helps. It helps remove the split ends that cause a lot of tangles and the stimulation to your head helps release natural oils. I know this isn’t the answer for everyone’s problems but this has helped a lot of people. If I have been using a cheap shampoo and conditioner or haven’t changed them out recently it becomes a pain again to brush my hair and I know what to do to fix it. If I maintain this regimine I have very few tangles in my hair. Also, I pull my hair back if I know I’m going to be doing something that will cause it to tangle. If it’s dry when it tangles I spray some lightweight conditioner on it and start brushing from the very bottom and work my way up.
For me, a brush has never made any difference in my hair. Actually, many wont go through my hair! I can’t say this wouldn’t work but I would get a cheap one at the local store to try before spending this much money.
I have seen a lot of ads with these types of brushes and are wondering if they really do work. My daughter has extremely long thick hair. It takes her over an hour to brush through the hair, then try to blow dry it. She complains everyday that it hurts her head to brush through it. I will definitely buy the brush just to see if it works on her hair. I really hope it does because just for her to do her hair takes hours each day.
I’ve been seeing a lot of commercials for these brushes recently and had high hopes for them. My daughter has thick curly hair…very different from mine, so I have a hard time managing it. Even when I brush it multiple times a day and try using specialty conditioners and hair oils, her hair still gets knots so easily. I currently use the Knot Genie and love it. It is similar in concept and style to the Tangle Teezer shown in the YouTube video. I like how it works, but my daughter still doesn’t like getting her hair brushed with it. I was hoping the Michel Mercier brush, with it’s multitude of different bristle lengths, would work better than my current brush which only has two bristle lengths, but it looks like it’s an expensive gamble as to whether or not it will work.
You know, I never would have believed these brushes would work. I have waist length hair and its thick and gets matted real easy. I’ve spent a lot of time working out knots, patiently, painfully teasing them out, my arms getting tired, my scalp sore. The idea that a brush could simply pass through my hair without pulling and snagging seemed like a joke. Well, it isn’t. These actually work. Okay its not exactly completely without snagging, but it is near enough for me to whole heartedly recommend these brushes.
I was attracted to this product because I have really thick, curly hair that easily gets tangled up. Sometimes I have to spend quite a bit of time detangling my hair after getting out of the shower, so any product that can cut down on that time would be a godsend. But being that this product not only got mixed reviews but is a little on the expensive side for a brush, I think I will just stick to my standard wide-tooth comb instead. It is supposedly better for curly hair than brushes anyway.
